With an all-star voice cast, you could be tricked into thinking that GOAT will actually be the greatest animation of all time! So many shows nowadays are trying to work out how Game of Thrones became so popular and copying the formula for their own pieces. With its war filled scenes, book matching plot lines and likable characters, it is easy to see why they are trying to do this. However, in an attempt to match up to the ratings that GOT gives them, Sky Atlantic’s drama Britannia, which releases its third series today on DVD and digitally, doesn’t quite live up to it.
Portraying the Roman takeover of England, the show captures those within the battle and those being affected by it. With comical undertones and bloody wars, there are a lot of similarities to GOT, but there is something about this that doesn’t quite stick. Maybe it is the comedy or the way in which the storyline is played out, but over the course of the first season, you may find yourself drifting off.
It is a show that never has a focus. When you think that you have got to grips with what the show may be trying to achieve it completely flips it. One minute you are seeing the serious sides of the war before a comical element drops in and ruins what could be the gem in the show.
The cast is, however, a great team, with David Morrissey, Fortunato Cerlino and Kelly Reilly all leading the way with their superb acting. Yet, they can’t save the chill that is not only spread on the screen but off the screen too. There is however one very beautiful thing about this show and that is the female leading characters. Whilst the men head to war, the women in the show, scheme and plot their own takedown in epic fashion.
Britannia has a lot of faults within it, which could be easily solved, but for something to enjoy whilst you wait for GOT it might do the trick. Girl power is fantastic and it will make you smile, but it doesn’t compare to other shows of recent times.

The Nest was a show on BBC One that I wasn’t sure I was
going to enjoy. With an incredible cast and an interesting storyline, it had
everything about it that would make even the most TV hater want to watch it,
but there was just something about it I was not sure about. However, I am glad I gave
the series a chance. You will be too if you catch in on DVD, Blu-Ray and
digitally from today.
Starring Line of Duty’s Martin Compston and Peaky Blinders
Sophie Rundle, the pair play a married couple, who long for a child of their
own. However, after years of sadly trying for one, they are unable to. Over the
course of five episodes, we see their dreams become true though when they make
a pact with a teenage girl to carry their child. Yet, not all is as it seems.
From the first episode, the joy in which you feel for the
couple having a baby is soon switched on its head, when we learn of the dark
world in which the young teenager is placing them in. Murder, money, and
darkness throughout, cause this to be a thrilling viewing from the moment it
begins. But this does also lead to times when the storyline can be a little bit
over the top.
Rundle and Compston are both compelling and able to lead the
show in a manner that you will enjoy. It is mostly problems with the script
that will leave you wondering if what you are watching is really all that good.
However, you will not be able to stop. You will get more drawn in if anything,
as you want to know what the pair are going to do when they find out the truth
and how the future will play out for them.
The show is a clever, refreshing TV thriller, but it does
have several faults that you may have to forgive if you are to get to the end.
Not one to lead onto a second series, this is an independent feature that once
watched will stay with you for a long time to come.

2019 became the year of Little Women. There was no doubt
that when Greta Gerwig released her version of Louisa May Alcott’s literary
classic, she did so with elegance, class and the most superb cast you could
have asked for. Now out on DVD, Blu-Ray and digitally from today, Little Women
is making as big of an impact all over again.
Jo March (Saoirse Ronan) is struggling to make it as a
writer in New York. Faced with difficult decisions, she returns home to her
family, when she is called to the bedside of her sister Beth (Eliza Scanlen). Looking
back on their younger years, whilst all together, the film captures how the
pair grew up together alongside their sisters Meg (Emma Watson) and Amy (Florence
Pugh).
Entrapped with hundreds of details that Alcott created, the
feature is an honest adaptation that everyone watching will enjoy. Even if you
haven’t read the classic novel, you will want to know how the sisters came to
be. You see the development of their stories, their lives and how the actions
of their childhoods impacted them. Even as adults.
The film though also captures the essence of what women
want. Both back in the settings of the feature and in modern life. People no
longer want to be left in the dark and are making their own decisions. With
both good and bad intentions. Something that makes this feature different from all
the other adaptations that have come before. It is Gerwig’s knowledge and power
as a female director that makes her the right choice and the right person to
create such a feature.
Instead of following the timeline of the book, she knows
that to give the women the ultimate power, she has to show every outcome. Every
moment that they experienced. But in a way, that modern audiences will
appreciate. She knows the lines to keep. The words that will stay with
audiences for years to come. Scenes that reflect the years gone by and the ones
to come. It shows how the adult females have grown and will continue to do so
through the power they have obtained. All something that as a viewer in the 21st
century you want to see.
Something that is also helped with the brilliance of the
cast in which Gerwig selected. Each actress wants to provide their best talents
to the story. You can see this throughout the feature. Every power that they are
booming across the screen is one that even in real life you know they have.
Altogether, the film is a clever mix of both a passion for
the author and the literary works the feature is based on and the power female
creators have. It is a pure joy to watch what Gerwig and her cast have created.
The enticing nature of the feature will go on to inspire many more filmmakers
in the future and rightly so.

When the franchise first started, Olympus Has Fallen was a
winner. Now as Angel Has Fallen comes out on DVD, Blu-Ray and digitally from today, it seems that Gerard Butler’s Die Hard wannabe Mike Banning has started
to go on a downward spiral himself.
Fighting to save the world once again, the action is taken
to new heights as Branning takes on the high-tech evil figures who are trying
to bring him down. However, he isn’t alone this time around with his friend
Danny Houston taking on a role alongside him.
The film is as predictable as you might guess, with
everything happening within it that you would expect. Butler says the lines one
would imagine being in an action film with the same power as an action man.
Yet, with this being his third outing in the series, it has
lost all the power it once had as a film. As a character even. Nothing comes
across in a fun or authentic way. In a lot of cases, it is all just like he has
made it for the hell of it. Instead of the passion that was once reflected in
the series.
The action is nowhere near as thrilling as it used to be.
Everything looks like it has been made on a small budget. The baddies don’t
seem to care if they are caught even. As for the plot, it is a predictable
story that you will guess in the first few moments of starting the feature.
If you have seen the other films in the franchise than this
is for you. If you haven’t, maybe give this one a miss before seeing the
others. Whilst Butler tries to continue with the character, he is unable to
save him and the country at once. A sad fact for a once-promising and thrilling
action feature and series.

Fresh from director Alexandre Aja and prodder Sam Raimi,
Crawl will make you want to stay in the comfort of your own home forever. Out today on DVD, Blu-Ray and digitally, this horror has everything against alligators
and the changing of the seasons you could imagine, putting the characters
through a whole host of problems.
Full of suspense and thrills, Crawl is a feature that
reflects that of Jaws and Shallow. Kaya Scodelario plays swimmer Haley Keller,
who becomes worried for the safety of her father (Barry Pepper), after he fails
to pick up her calls. Deciding to go and pick him up, she crosses an alligator
farm. A place that comes back to haunt the pair of them, as they find
themselves stuck in a hurricane causing them to become blocked in an alligator
filled drain pipe.
With only a limited amount of space to move and an intense
amount of suspense brought in, the characters are faced with having to crawl
and flow with the waves on screen. The alligators are impressive villains in
the story and whilst some recent features have made the villains look
ridiculous with CGI creations, these don’t. In fact, you have to seek out the
truth as to whether they are real or not they are that good.
However, they are the only characters that have been given
real justice. The story becomes an over the top family therapy session in high
waters that is very unreal. Whilst many of us would be screaming and seeking to
escape, the two characters bond through their misfortune. In many ways reacting
as if they like it. Something that as a viewer, no matter how you are watching,
isn’t wanted or needed.
Whilst director Aja is normally clever in his remakes,
including The Hills Have Eyes, he fails to bring s sense of something fresh to
the alligator genre. The story flows like a bad horror and sadly the actors can’t
save it. Skin crawling or drain pipe crawling. Either way, it is a feature that
will test you in many ways. Unlike Jaws, it won’t have you fearing a swim any time
soon though.

It’s not uncommon now to hear of a successful film getting a
sequel. Yet, five of them is an impressive amount. Fresh from The Conjuring
series, Annabelle Comes Home, out today on DVD, Blu-Ray and digitally, brings
us back in touch with the doll that no one wants to go near.
When Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera
Fermiga) leave their daughter with a babysitter from hell, they are faced with
a familiar demon to handle. After opening up the madness in Annabelle, the
family is ripped apart by the trouble it causes.
Unlike the previous features, Annabelle Comes Home feels a
little bit repetitive. Nowhere near as scary as its predecessors, the series
takes a step back in the wrong direction. Characters are hard to deal with and
emotions go overboard. It is only the brilliance of Wilson and Fermiga that
really make the whole thing work.
However, if you are a fan of the series than it could be one
not to miss. Filling in certain gaps, there is an element of fun that comes
with dealing with the new family dynamic within the films. A family who seem to
have an unwanted daughter in the form of a doll amongst them. There is also the
case of seeing exactly what Annabelle does, which is often thrilling to see as
an audience member.
Yet, it doesn’t make the feature stand out entirely. Without
the characters familiarity or the sense of knowing Annabelle, it might be a bad
feature to start on. As a first-time viewer, go back and watch the rest before
seeking this one out. As a fan, enjoy more for the cast than the plot. If you're
in-between, take your pick whether it is one to be seen. Annabelle might have
come home, but she hasn’t won this demon fight just yet.

Bette Davis. A woman who ruled the screen. Even in her most
powerful moments, she was someone who could never be beaten and that shows
throughout her performance in Now, Voyager.
Whilst many will know her for All About Eve and others, Now
Voyager, which has been re-released today in a beautiful 4K format, highlights
that there was really nothing she couldn’t do.
Playing the nervous spinster Charlotte Vale, Davis gives an
award-worthy portrayal of a woman having to deal with the horrors of life under
the watchful eye of her mother. From therapy to romance, every aspect is examined,
and no amount of work or determination can stop her mother from having her way.
Until Charlotte decides to take back control.
Full of melodramatic moments, the feature is one of true
Hollywood glamour. Each character’s flaws and beauty are shown in a tremendous
fashion. All that comes from picking the right people for the roles. No walls
are put up. You see and get what you expect from each one. Davis is the most
powerful of the lot.
Years after the film’s release, every bit of it sparkles in
all the right ways. Made at the top of her career, it may not be the film
people remember her most for, yet it is one many should. Hopefully, with the new
format and release, they will do.

With a title like Plebs, many would think that this comedy
is set to offend lots. However, over the years, the series has done the
opposite. It has brought joy and a light-hearted nature to the British comedy
scene that is still shining bright in its fifth series, out today on DVD and digitally.
Returning for another successful eight episodes, the series
kicks off and remains incredibly strong throughout. Having found his place
Jason (Jonathan Pointing), now has a solid home alongside regulars Marcus (Tom
Rosenthal) and the best of the three, Grumio (Ryan Sampson). Full of schemes,
plans and food in relation to Grumio, the show manages to pull off everything
you would expect and more in a beautiful manner.
With many a guest stars, the fifth series sees Jason coming
to terms with an unwanted admirer, whilst Marcus and Grumio battle to make
their tavern, the Crown and Toga, thrive under the pressure of the nightlife in
the Roman city. A tough job in 23BC.
Each character finally has a place within the show that
works. Whilst Rosenthal and Sampson have always been there, they still make it
feel like you are learning about their characters and fallen for them just like
the first time. Especially in the case of Sampson, who is the standout
performer throughout the show and its many series. No one compares to him and
the work he does in leading the way for the characters and Grumio is the best
of the trio in terms of giving every element of comedy.
Nothing within the script seems too much for the stars of
the show and those that guest feature. Everything you would expect and
everything you don’t is shown. From sick, spit and even worse than that, the
characters are thrown into every situation. Something that even on the fifth
series works. It brings hope and joy that sitcoms like this haven’t gone
anywhere and the creators should be proud.
Plebs has been a joy to watch for the past five series and I
hope it continues on. Nothing is too much and everything makes your heart swell
with joy watching. If you have never seen it before, but it and binge.
Christmas is a moment for joy and Plebs series five is definitely delivering it
just in time.

Marlon Brando is a legend of the screen in every way.
Whether it be for his performance as Stanley in A Streetcar Named Desire or his
unforgettable turn in The Godfather, his film catalogue is one many aspiring
actor wants to have.
However, it is his work in On The Waterfront that really
makes him a standout perform. The heart wrenching, emotional feelings Brando gives
in the portrayal still stand the test of time, as the film marks it’s
re-release this December in a new 4K format.
Displayed in a beautiful new aspect ratio, the feature has a
way of making you think about everything life has to show. A deep poetic script
of need and desires are shown throughout Terry Malloy’s character masterpiece.
Poems that make the eight-time Oscar winner still a powerful viewing feature.
Brando is a force to be had in the feature and it is easy to
see why his turn as the troubled prizefighter is one not many forget. It is
his true shining moment as an actor. Lines are said that no one can forget.
Powerful feelings displayed in close up shots that make it an amazing view.
Even after all these years, the film has a way of making
audiences feel something. Emotions that you may have never felt before. With so
many Oscars, it is a feature that should be proud to be so influential. Even
after all this time. If you’ve never seen in, watch it now in this beautiful
platform. If you’ve seen it before, take it as the right time to watch it all
over again.

Featuring the return of the voices of Jason Sudeikis, Danny McBride, Josh Gad and Bill Hader, The Angry Birds Movie 2 appeared out of nowhere but easily wins us over. Full of mischief, the feature, which is out today on DVD, Blu-Ray and digitally, brings back the war of pranks that we have all come to love and admire from the classic video game.
With the war raging on, lead pig, King Leonard (Hader) is faced with the ultimate test, when he must call a truce to save both islands from the ultimate danger that they have come to face. However, not content with the news, Red (Sudeikis), Bomb (McBride) and Chuck (Gad), plus, Chuck’s sister Silver (newcomer Rachel Bloom), unite to help solve the situation.
The film didn’t get the biggest marketing space when it was first announced, however that hasn’t made it any less effective as the first feature. With a new creative led by Thurop Van Orman and John Rice, fans of the video game will delight in this new adventure, as it recalls the forgotten lands that once caused us all to go mad catapulting pigs and other animals around them.
Unlike them though, there is a sense of family and uniting of people that makes the film a fun watch. The animals are as ever ones that have been made to be a true reflection of what we came to know them for. As a follow-up feature, it shows just how much we have needed them to entertain us in all forms. It is a safe watch. It is one where you don’t have to think, but just take in. And it works a lot compared to the first feature by doing this. Subtle but never too much.
Fun for family members of all ages and out just in time for Christmas, the feature will be a hit no matter when it is watched. Grandparents, who may not even have a clue what the app is, will love it. Kids will. Parents will respond to the demands of both the game and the world of the films in equal measure. There so, if you are a fan or foe of the little birds, no doubt should be had as to whether to snuggle up with this one. You will not be disappointed by doing so.

love with the sport. Even if you are not a fan, you will find yourself proud of

Martin Clunes has long been a British legend when it comes
to his time on screen. Whether he is exploring real-life issues or heading into
the world of comedy, he always knows how to draw his audience in. With Doc Martin
heading into its ninth season, out today on DVD and digitally, Clunes continues to shine and make his way with
the character in a brilliant manner that many of us will miss when it ends.
Over the course of eight episodes, Clune’s Doc Martin is
taking on a new role within the home. As is his wife, Louisa (Caroline Catz),
who has decided to leave behind her role as the local headmistress to be a
child counsellor. After witnessing her son turning into his father, her concern
for the pair grows, especially with her wanting to try for another child in the
future. Together, the duo battles the local community and their medical
problems, as well as their own marriage issues.
When watching Doc Martin, there is always a sense that you
are really going inside a doctor’s home. You can imagine some of the weird and
wonderful illnesses happening. In fact, you wonder if you have been one of the
strange ones who have gone in with problems like those shown on screen.
However, what you don’t normally get from an appointment, which you do get from
Doc Martin is the joy of watching.
Whatever age you are, there is a comfort to the show that
speaks autumn/winter cosy Sunday nights. Plus, with the addition of some big
names, there is the familiar appeal of seeing who crops up in the show and what
they will have wrong with them.
Unlike turning off when you watch the gore of shows like ER
or Grey’s Anatomy, Doc Martin is a family-friendly feature that every age can
delve into in your pyjamas. Grab a blanket, some cheese on toast and book an
appointment, because this is the one for you to enjoy this winter.

Being young and in love is something that is always reflected as an innocent act. Yet, in Wes Anderson’s world in Moonrise Kingdom, two 12-year-olds love causes adventures that give every audience member a new appreciation for the world and the wilderness. All of which that has been re-released in a brand-new Blu-Ray format, as of today.
Launching the careers of Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward, as Sam and Suzy, the feature has one of the best all-star casts around. Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Frances McDormand and Bruce Willis lead the familiar names appearing in this tale of Sam and Suzy’s secret pact to run away and stay in love forever. Yet, their world is changing when a storm brews that causes them to rethink everything they knew.
When you feature a cast like this, all led by an amazing director, there is nothing that Moonrise Kingdom can’t do. It is a feature that takes you back to your childhood. It is a feature that shows the pressures of first love and growing up. It shows that the world is always changing and the plans we have are forever changing. All in the beautiful way Anderson can only do.
Unlike his previous features, this is the one that seems like the most innocent. It has the darkness that blends with the light throughout, but it works. Anderson’s take on the Scouts teens going about their own adventure and experiencing the world for themselves, instead of listening to what is expected of them from their leader and the police.
Comedy is the beauty in this feature though. There is a manner in the film that shows even in the darkest of times, there is nothing that the world can stop you from dreaming or aiming for. Plus, with a cast like this, they all know what to do, even years on, to make you smile. Wes Anderson just knows what to do as a filmmaker to make us happy, which is all we can ask for.

Murder mysteries come in waves when autumn and winter hits!
Visual proof as to why it is better to stay in when the evenings get darker,
the likes of Luther, The Fall and Sherlock have been creating scares and
thrills for years. Now joining them, as it comes out on DVD and digitally, is
the new series, Dublin Murders.
Based on the best-selling books by Tana French, the new
drama manages to take the first two books in her series and create a drama that
is full of past and present scares. Delving into the darkness of Ireland’s past
and the height of 2006, two detectives, Rob Reilly (Killian Scott) and Cassie
(Sarah Greene), must try to solve the case of a child who has been tragically
murdered in Knocknaree, Dublin.
Full of powerful performances, the show has a way of making
you want to watch on. Starting off in a very odd manner, with lots of watching
and details needed to hook the audience in, the show moves along its eight
episodes in a way that causes it to click into place well once it does. Unlike
The Fall, it shows a new Irish series that writer Sarah Phelps has placed in an
interesting spotlight to hook us all in.
The world within the books has been adapted in a professional
manner that feels right for this time of year. It feels like it should be on
our screens and the cast reflects that. All put on in a fabulous manner throughout
and know what to do to make sure audiences are not put off by the strange
opening.
In fact, once you get over the opening, it is a series that
makes you want to lock all your doors and never open them again. It is full of
tragedy, depth and clever use of landscape and history. One of the best dramas
to come from Ireland in recent years, this will make you please that you tuned
in because everyone will be talking about it soon. Especially once the later
episodes are played and the finale is revealed.
With a fantastic cast, strong script and clever storyline,
Dublin Murders flows onto our winter screens well. It will leave you locking
all your doors and windows well before you get to the end of the series due to
the shocks and horrors witnessed. Something you know marks a good series.

Until I received the email about the release of Surviving
Christmas With The Relatives, I believed that this was just something we all
did. As much as we seek to head home and get our festive fancies on with those
we love, there comes a time when about five minutes in, you wish you were
somewhere else. Something the characters within the film, out today on DVD and digitally, seek a lot of the time too.
With an all-star British cast, the feature follows two
sisters, who head home to their family’s cottage to spend the holidays
together. Whilst reconnecting, the pair discover a lot they didn’t know about
the other and their families. Including the way, they both react to each other’s
differing personalities.
Playing on what we have all come to know and love about Christmas,
the film is a fun take on the family mishaps that happen at one of the best
times of years. Within a moment’s notice, relatives they are not expecting
appear. Family members go missing and fights erupt around them all. However,
nothing prepares them for the joy that Christmas still brings.
Whilst not one of the best in terms of story or script, it
does play on many tropes that those of us who see it for ourselves in our homes
will understand. However, even though the cast is great at trying hard to bring
the story to life, it does lose its way halfway through, making it a bit of a bah
humbug after a while.
If you are seeking a new festive film this holiday season,
this may just be the one for you. Yet, a good old classic may be what you need
more. Head into the world of family madness if you dare or just put up with
your own this Christmas.

In a world filled with Brexit nightmares, it comes as no surprise that the world of horror films is ever-growing and getting ever great. With ghouls and goblins out to get us throughout October, there is one film that is terrorising all with its graphic scenes and horrific storyline. The feature, Midsommar, out today on DVD, Blu-ray and digitally, captured audiences around the world and rightly so!
Deciding to head on a trip to Sweden to get closer to her boyfriend (Jack Reynor), Dani (Florence Pugh) finds herself being dragged into a cult following that ends up being the stuff of true nightmares. After getting an email from her sister, which leads to a family tragedy, the trip is supposed to be a relaxing backpacking trip for the pair and his friends (featuring Will Poulter). However, it is anything but when a tribe leads them into a Swedish forest, causing heartache, panic and above all else the undeniability that some of them may not be leaving.
In many ways, director Ari Aster has called upon the likes of The Wicker Man, to draw in the story for this monster of feature. With more horror films placing characters in situations that seem to real to be true but could happen, the stories are more frantic to watch. There is no denying that when watching Midsommar, you can’t help but want to grab the cast and beg them to leave what they are about to get caught up in. You want to shake them and tell them to run.
Yet, throughout watching, you know that this is not going to be the case and the more they delve into it, the harder it is to watch. As the gore grows, the gripping nature does as well. Something that as a viewer is a horrific realisation to watch. There is nothing that can stop you from doing so though. A clever feature element for all those involved, but especially that of the directors towards the audience.
Unsettling in every way, the casting, storyline and close-ups lead to a film that shouldn’t be so enjoyable to watch. For a horror film though, it works in every possible way. The actors stand out and make you feel for them, apart from those within the cult. The story has been crafted to keep you guessing, even when you can see what might come next. There is so much in which works that it leaves you not wanting to watch more, but also wanting to delve into Aster’s world just a little bit longer. Something that marks a good film that deserves all the attention.
