00:00:00

Watching one of the films within the 28 Days/Years franchise is like sitting down and viewing the latest instalment of something that you know is going to thrill you throughout! In the newest venture within the dystopian universe, 28 Years Later, is exactly what you would expect, in all the right ways! Read my review of the horror film of the year here!

Good Morning Lovelies,

It was only last year that the world became gripped in the 28 Days/Years saga again, after an incredible return to the big screen. With so much excitement having been built, the wait for 28 Years Later:The Bone Temple couldn’t be a long one and thankfully it wasn’t. Carrying right on from where the previous one left off, the thrills, scares and shocks kick in from the moment the opening credits roll.

Directed by Nia DaCosta, with Cillian Murphy and Danny Boyle producing, the feature is a perfect slice of the horror franchise, as she brings the second instalment to life. Infecting all of us into its grip, she captures the gore and characters in a way that any horror fan will enjoy.

Having escaped from the safety of the segregated island that his father is on, Spike returns to the mainland, instantly falling under the spell of Jimmy and the Jimmys. As soon as you see them on screen, the chills are brought to life, as their presence provides audiences with a discomfort that is felt more from them than the infected.

Fighting each other, to death in some cases, they are wild, savage and out of control characters, who are more dangerous than the diseased. Especially when Ralph Fiennes’ Dr Ian Kelson manages to figure out an antidote that may just save all. Well, all apart from those who are still human.

The feature is a perfect horror, with all the elements you could want and more. With the whole franchise having been built around the idea of humanity being the most savage of all, it goes back to the early moments from the first film, where you are never quite sure what is going to happen next.

It isn’t a zombie chase. It is a chase from the dangers of what humans are going to do to each other and DaCosta has presented this perfectly. Capturing the characters in all their gory glory, she brings out the best scenes from the likes of Fiennes and the evil in this case, Jack O’Connell, who plays leader Jimmy.

Even as the film comes to a close, and we get a sneak peek at what the third film in the new trilogy will bring, the script, cinematography and acting remains tight. It is a real joy for all horror film fans to watch. Even in the most goriest of moments, which will have many reaching for a cushion to hide behind. Ultimately, 28 Years Later: The Blood Temple is a thrill ride from start to finish, which takes the franchise to a whole new level, which all involved can be very proud of!
