With only a few weeks to go until it is Mother’s Day, there is not a better time than now to start preparing! Starting with the most perfect chocolates to present your mum with!
Whitakers Chocolates kindly gifted me a number to try in the lead up to the big day, so I had to gift them to my mum to trial them for me, seeing as they are designed for people like her. Arriving in a big brown box, we found a huge tub of pink foiled mini heart chocolates in a plastic tub, a Mother’s Day chocolate bar and a very fancy chocolate truffles selection box. All of which got my mum very excited.
We decided to start with the chocolate bar to begin the trial. Wrapped in a beautiful floral designed paper, the bar has Happy Mother’s Day written on it, giving it a personal touch that my mum was really appreciative of. Unwrapping the foil coating, the bar was squared off, making it easier to break off a piece. Even after it had been in the fridge for a while, as my mum prefers her chocolate super cold.
Instantly, my mum told me that it was silky smooth, melting away in her mouth easily. So much so that she had to go back for another bite. Before long most of the bar was gone, which was a very good sign. However, my mum decided to hold back to give the mini pink heart chocolates a go.
Again, these had been placed in the fridge, yet my mum found the exact same thing as the bar. It oozed gorgeously flavoured chocolate upon touching her tongue. It melted perfectly and my mum stated that the mini hearts would be great on top of brownies or a hot chocolate.
Something I really liked about the hearts was the amount of them. For me, they would be perfect to make little presents for all the amazing mothers you know or even as Easter egg hunt alternatives. There was so many of them that we did give them out to other people in fact. All of whom loved them too.
Finally, we moved onto the luxury assorted chocolate truffles box. Filled with milk, dark and white based truffles that come in a mix of flavours including rum, rooftop caramel and many more, there was a taste for everyone. We waited to enjoy these later in the evening and when I say that they were the best delight to have on a cosy night in its true. My mum did not want to share them, tucking into the box as she watched Call The Midwife.
Matching the wonderful Mother’s Day bar, the team have also made a great milk chocolate slab to enjoy at Easter. Beautifully decorated, these would be perfect placed onto plates as a gift on the big day. That’s if you can bear to part with them.
Ultimately, the chocolates were a huge success and I couldn’t recommend them enough. If you are looking for the perfect Mother’s Day gift then Whitakers is the place to go. Easter is finally upon us and with it comes lots of excitement and lots of chocolate! Whilst many of us will be delving into those incredible hollow eggs that have been capturing our attentions for months now, you may be seeking something more. Some Easter cookies perhaps?
Super simple, quick and easy to make, these Mini Egg filled chocolate spread based bakes, will fill your home with even more chocolate goodness. Let the baking commence…
Ingredients
150g or One Cup of Plain Flour
240g or One Cup of Chocolate Spread
One Large Egg
One Pack of Mini Eggs
Tools
Two Baking Trays
Greaseproof Paper
Large Mixing Bowl
Two Tablespoons
A Fork
Cooling Rack
Method
Start by preheating your oven to 150(C). Then grease and line the two baking trays with greaseproof paper and place to one side.
In a large mixing bowl, add all of the ingredients together and mix until a dough is formed and fully combined.
Either using your hands or a tablespoon, roll out the mixture into balls of the same size and place onto the trays.
Carefully use a fork to press down onto the cookies to form their shape. Then place the Mini Eggs on top of each cookie, pressing gentle to make sure they are secure within the mixture.
Place into the oven and cook for eight minutes. Do not let them cook any longer, as they will loose their chewy texture.
Once baked, remove from the oven and leave on the trays for five minutes. Then place them on a cooling rack to cool completely or enjoy whilst warm.

Is it even Christmas if you don’t have a tub of chocolates/sweets in your house? My mum and I always try to get them when they are on offer. Something the shops started doing in September this year. We use them at Halloween, Christmas and even afterwards. Our family simply can’t get enough.
However, there are definitely chosen ones in our house. We aren’t a picky chocolate/sweets family, but when it comes to festive tubs, we have a list of the ones we prefer. Therefore, I thought I would share our list of superior ones. Here is how we vote in our house, going from lowest to highest. Read to the bottom to find out our top picks…
8. Lindt Festive Tin: We can’t stand Lindt in our house! Sorry lovelies!
7. Bassett's Retro Sweets: Whilst we don’t hate these, they don’t seem to have the selection that I remember. Although, we do welcome them still.
6. Cadbury’s Roses: In our house, we sadly aren’t the biggest fan of Cadbury’s Roses. We enjoy a few of them, but when it comes to picking which ones we like best, there are others we would pick over these.
5. Swizzels Sweets Tub: We do love Swizzels sweets in our house and these probably would have been on top, but they can’t beat Haribo’s.
4. Haribo Sweets Tub: Are there any better sweets than Haribo ones? This tub is filled with the best ones and the big snack packets too. Great for taking them around with you on the go or using in advent calendars or stockings.
3. Cadbury Heroes: Dairy Milk will always be a winning chocolate and having a whole tin of the best of the best makes this an instant Christmas classic in our house.
2. Quality Street: Who can resist a toffee penny or a chocolate toffee finger? I will steal these from the tub before anyone gets the chance to have them. Those and the fudges. I tell you now, if you try and get them off me, you will not win.
1. Celebrations: Twix, Maltesers, Bounty, Mars, the possibilities of goodness in this tub are endless and for that reason we always have to have them in our house. Although, there is a fight over who gets to have what out of them.

Good Morning Lovelies,
- 400g (14oz) of White Chocolate
- One Packet of White chocolate buttons
- One Packet of Pretzel sticks
- One Packet of Mini Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Halved
- Sprinkles or Red and Green M&Ms/Smarties
- Baking Tray
- Baking Paper
- Mixing Spoon
- Microwavable Bowl
- Spatula
- Knife
- Line one 20.5cm (8-inch) baking tray with baking paper and leave to one side.
- In a microwavable bowl, melt the white chocolate in a heatproof bowl for 30 seconds intervals. Watch to make sure that the chocolate doesn’t burn.
- While the chocolate is melting, prepare the decorations. Use white chocolate buttons to mark out the snowman’s body. Split pretzel sticks in half for the arms. Cut the Mini Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups in hearts to make their hats and use black and orange sprinkles for the eyes and nose.
- Once the chocolate is melted and smooth, pour it onto the prepared tin. Use a spatula to flatten the chocolate on the tray and leave to stand for a few minutes until it begins to set.
- Quickly add the decorations in the ways in which you want to make the snowmen.
- Around the snowman, scatter more sprinkles or the M&Ms/Smarties around them and leave to chill in the fridge for around two hours until set.
- Once hardened, cut with a knife or break shards off with your hands. Then sit back and enjoy lovelies.
