Mary And The Witch’s Flower DVD Review

Good Morning Lovelies,

Mary And The Witch’s Flower is a film that has everything Studio Ghibli about it, but without the actual studio behind it. It is a masterpiece in its own right and one that would make the former very proud to have such similarities to it.

Telling the story of a young schoolgirl called Mary, who is spending the holidays with her great aunt, the film captures her life being changed forever when a magic broomstick leads her to the magical Endor College. A place that changes her life.

Studio Ponoc and the team behind this film have made the classic Ghibli feel come back for audiences with this story that draws so many parallels to their work. There is a beauty in every aspect of the story. The creativity behind the drawings. A script that is so well crafted your heart will sing with joy. And that is what makes this film a must-watch.

As their debut feature, the work of director Hiromasa Yonebayashi, who worked for Ghibli is well-placed here and there is a connection that brings the two together. The adventure and life of the young girl is something audiences of the former will find a joy in experience and it will fill the hole that was left behind. With so many animations trying so hard to stand out, this one does it by being subtle.

For a story and film that will entice the entire family, Mary And The Witch’s Flower is the one for all to sit down with. Especially as the winter months roll in. The nature and beauty of the anime world will inspire creative and further filmmaker and Studio Ponoc should be proud of this.

There so, I am giving it…
