Heathers DVD Review

08:00:00

Good Morning Lovelies,

Heathers is a film that every teenager should see! If you ever thought your school was mad, bad or just downright bitchy, then you haven’t seen this film before!

Starring Winona Ryder at her 80s best and Christian Slater, Heathers shows the brutality of the classic film girl gang. All of which named Heather. Honestly, if you thought Mean Girls was bad, then just wait.

When Veronica Sawyer (Ryder) begins to question whether being a member of the Heathers and the most popular girl in school is really worth it, she is forced into a dark world. As she falls for the new bad bay, J.D. (Slater), Veronica is forced to come to terms with nasty school rumours, horrific consequences and a brutal school life.

Celebrating a key anniversary this year, the film hasn’t aged and the hook it has as a cult classic is obvious. Ryder slays in this performance and the film has obviously left a huge mark on the creative minds of today. Especially Ryan Murphy, as his Scream Queens TV drama uses many moments of reflection from Heather. As does Tina Fey in the previously mentioned film.

The feature is timeless and for a number of reasons. Whether it be the all plaid look, the classic croquet games or the brutality of the final scenes that have led this film to be so rememberable, we should all be thankful for it. Finally, after years of being missed off must watch teen listings, Heathers has risen and made the ultimate comeback. One that viewers may enjoy more after seeing Ryder shine on our screens in Stranger Things.

As well, the film’s soundtrack is still an element that could draw anyone in. It is a bright star in the film soundtrack world and still manages to hook you in from the opening notes up until the end. Something that makes the dark moments that much brighter.

Dark moments that don’t always work in the film's favour. Especially as the years go on! Moments such as the bomb scene are not ones that age well. Yet, they don’t cause you to want to turn off.

Love them or loathe them, the Heathers are going nowhere. In fact, they are leaving an even bigger mark as they return to celebrate their anniversary, as they plot their way to the top of every must-watch list.

There so, I am giving the film...

4 Stars
