Maze DVD Review

Good Morning Lovelies,

Irish cinema has been getting bigger and bigger recently and I am loving it. Joining the many films on the market at the moment is Maze, a film that looks at the relationship between a Republican prisoner and the stressed prison guard he faces every day.

Directed by Stephen Burke, the film shows a different side to the rebellion that many will only be finding out for the first time through this film. Burke has made a script that shows the beauty in humanity through the gentle nature of both characters. Each character is fighting for something they believe in, but underneath it all there is still a person under the brutality captured in Burke’s script.

However, there are some key elements that are lost. If you don’t know a lot about the history of that period of time, the film fails to bring up what the true story was and explain it to audiences.

It makes for confusing viewing along the way that leads to struggles in following the plot and harrowing story. This doesn’t stop the actors and the director from making an education film though and it is only a minor detail in an otherwise great feature.

There so I am giving it…
