Versailles Season Three DVD Review

08:00:00

Good Morning Lovelies,

Versailles is one of those shows that you either love or hate. Full of drama, romance and raunchy moments, it is definitely not for the faint-hearted, with the number of graphic sex scenes earning it a large number of complaints each season. However, as it marks its final season with a third times lucky moment, the show has scaled back everything it once was.

The risky nature of the drama has died off with the sense of victory that King Louis XIV expresses after winning the war over the Dutch. And the fact that his new palace is finally complete and as beautiful as he would like it to be. A place which becomes a space for his many mistresses.

With the risk factor died down, there are a lot of elements about the show that seems lost. It feels like the once fun drama that pushed audiences into a new whelm is no longer able to withstand or hold the power that it once did. Even the role of King Louis seems to sense this, with his powerful king expression not as strong as it once was either.

The real beauty of the third season is the glamour of the world surrounding the characters. There are some scenes that take your breath away and you find yourself longing for a moment to escape to them. The beauty in the scene is what has led this show to be three seasons long. And of course, the boundaries that the writers push.

As sadness hits the show with the knowledge that this is the last chance to share a story, the show oozes elegance and glamour but slides out quietly. Very different to the way it burst it on to the scene. If you have watched the show from the start then you will love it, if you haven’t you might want to miss it.

With all this in mind, I am giving it…
