Jamaica Inn And Co DVD Reviews

Good Morning Lovelies,

A few days ago I sat down to get into the Halloween mood by watching some classic horror films. These cult classics have just been re-released by Arrow Films and I have a strong feeling that if you are an old school Halloween soul than you are going to enjoy them.

The first film I started with was Jamaica Inn...

Starring Maureen O’Hara in her first film role, she plays a young orphan called Mary who arrives in Cornwall to stay with her aunt. However, upon moving there, she meets a gang who cause her to fall in with their backstabbing and corrupt ways.

The film is a great look at the talent O’Hara had from a young age. She does not hold back and she makes the film have a brilliant charm about it. When her character is faced with the unusual behaviour of the gang, she makes sure that she contains her power and expresses it at the right time to show audience members that she is controlling the film.

With the film having influenced a number of Alfred Hitchcock’s further feature films it is easy to see why. There is a slow burning thrill about them that leads the film into a moment of complete tension and chaos, much like other Hitchcock’s films.

There so I am giving it...

The next film I watched was The Initiation...

Another film that made a TV star in a film star, the film shows Daphne Zuinga take on the college horror film and the darkness of college sororities. Brought back at a time when Scream Queens strives on TV, the film shows audiences a darker take on the horror genre, though.

Created during the 80s, it’s a strong member of the horror film family and will not be forgotten with the way it works alongside so many other films of that genre. It just needs to be able to raise its voice now to be a lot more powerful.

There so I am giving the film...
