Make The Ultimate Autumn Cereal At Home With This Recipe
00:00:00Who says that we can’t have our bowl of cereal and enjoy it? I am so sick of one of the best foods in the world getting a bad reputation! With this in mind, I have a recipe for a homemade kind that has all the best bits of autumn and winter wrapped up inside of it making it truly delicious and devourable!
Good Morning Lovelies,
It is no secret on this blog that I am a big fan of cereal! At the moment, I am currently going through a big love affair for the rice krispies made by Aldi. With a dollop of strawberry jam, some fresh berries and an Actimel alongside them, I am in my element. Yet, I am always seeking something new to test myself with.
Sometimes, I find this in the aisles of our supermarkets. However, I am always trying to find homemade versions too. This is something that led me to testing a few things to come up with this one that is like autumn and winter in a bowl.
Full to the brim with seasonal spices and ingredients, this cereal takes hardly any time at all to make but will feed the whole family for a long time. Grab a bowl of this and sit in your snuggliest chair, under a cosy blanket, to enjoy it…
Ingredients
200g of Rolled Oats
50g of Broken Up Shredded Wheat
60g of Cornflakes
One Small Diced Apple
Two Tablespoons of Maple Syrup
One and a ½ Tablespoons of Melted Butter
One Teaspoon of Ground Cinnamon
A Pinch of Nutmeg
A Pinch of Salt
½ of Ground Ginger
40g of Raisins or Dried Cranberries
Two Crushed Ginger Biscuits
20-30g of Chocolate Chips (Optional)
Tools
A Baking Tray
Baking Paper
A Mixing Bowl
A Mixing Spoon
Method
Start by preheating your oven to 170ºC and lining a baking tray with baking paper. Then grab a mixing bowl.
Add in the oats, cornflakes and Shredded Wheat. Stir until well combined.
Next, add in the cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and salt and mix again. Then add in the maple syrup and butter. Stir until everything is evenly and well coated.
Using your mixing spoon, pour the mixture onto your baking tray. Don’t flatten it but use the back of your spoon to press some of the clusters together. The bigger the crunchier.
When ready, place into the oven and bake for 12 minutes. After the set time, remove from the oven and add the apple to the tray. Stir to spread the chunks evenly before placing it back into the oven for eight to 12 minutes or until golden and crisp.
Once ready, remove from the oven and allow the cereal to cool completely on the tray. This will allow it to crisp up further.
When the cereal is fully cooled down, add in the raisins or cranberries (or both), the ginger biscuits and the chocolate chips. The cereal is then ready to enjoy!
To me, this screams having it alongside some warm milk! I know cereal is often associated with breakfast but I also think that this would be perfect to have at the end of a busy day. It is even great to have as a snack, turning the little clusters into a biscuit type food. Cereal is seriously the best food ever! What is your favourite bowl filler? Let me know!
