Magnificent Doll DVD Release

Good Morning Lovelies,

Ginger Rodgers is a film star that still wins over everyone who watches her. From her amazing performances with Fred Astaire to her Oscar-winning performance in Kitty Foyle, she could command many stories.

Including that of, Magnificent Doll, one of the few films she did away from Astaire. Telling the story of Payne Madison, the film captures the famous figures journey from Virginia to the White House, in pure finery. For those familiar with Hamilton, you may catch yourself singing along at parts, as the two men who try to woo her, Aaron Burr and James Madison, appear in her story many times.

However, away from this, the film is a piece of cinematic history. Rodgers is a formidable force in the feature, as the famous figure and brings depth and emotion to every scene. Whilst, she may not be dancing around the camera, the camera is dancing around her to present close up’s, wide pans and black and white stills that show her commitment to making sure the character is told right.

Based on the best-selling book, the film is one that should be celebrated more. As classics continue to come back from the brink of being forgotten, this one is sure to make a stand. Fan of Rodger or not, you will not be able to stop watching.

There so, I am giving the film…

4 ½ Stars
