Phenomena DVD Review

06:00:00

Good Morning Lovelies,

January can be a horrible time. It is cold, wet and the aftermath of Christmas is in the air. Making it the perfect time to watch a classic horror film. And luckily the people at Arrow Film have released a cult hit in time.

Out today on Blu-ray for the first time ever and DVD, Phenomena, tells the story of Jennifer Corvino (Jennifer Connelly), a young girl who arrives in a new town to attend an all-girls school. However, whilst at the school, a killer begins to attack her friends and whilst sleepwalking she witnesses a horrible death. Working with an entomologist and using her telepathic skills, Jennifer speaks to the animals around her to try and get to the bottom of the terrible acts.

This 1980s hit from horror film legend Dario Argento, the man behind films such as Suspiria, is full of animalistic horror delights. The comparisons between the girls and the evil animals and insects is compelling viewing. Connelly’s reacts on-screen to her telepathic powers never appear like a Dr Doolittle montage, but genuine fearfulness and Alice in Wonderland beauty.

Overall, it is a horror film with a twist. Everything has a comparison and a clever twist that makes it interesting to watch and take in. Earning it this insect ridden…
