The Keeping Room DVD Review
07:00:00
Good Morning Lovelies,
Growing up I had to learn the key western films fast. My dad
is western film obsessed and when it comes to a new one coming out he is one of
the first to watch it. So over the weekend I sat down with him and watched The
Keeping Room with him.
Starring Hailee Steinfeld, Sam Worthington and Brit Marling,
the film tells the story of America as it comes to the end of the civil war.
Following Augusta, played by Marling, the film sees her come face to face with
drunken soldiers who threaten her. Managing to escape the film sees Augusta and
her sister fighting with the soldiers as both seek to get revenge.
Marling is a strong and independent figure when on screen.
She commands the audience’s attention and makes sure that people remember her
performance as Augusta. The same goes for Worthington, who takes on a different
look in this film. Instead of playing the hero, he plays the villain and figure
many will dislike in the film.
The most interesting thing about this film however happens
to be the women that are in control. I can’t think of a western, there may well
be one, which is like this. Three women leading the western world is just what
the film industry needed and proves that men and women can take on equal
actions and roles in every genre.
There so I am giving the film…
