Dim sum is becoming a very popular choice when it comes to what we want to eat! Yet, it can be quite costly, hard to make and if brought via a takeaway, a bit of a risk, meaning our enjoyment of it is often a bit iffy! However, this is no longer the case, thanks to Ding Dong Dim Sum's amazing food selection!

Good Morning Lovelies,

The idea of making dim sum at home can be a bit daunting for many of us! Using many ingredients and with a fiddly building process, recipes can be hard to follow, meaning we often turn to another dish instead of enjoying the brilliant dumplings, buns, gyozas and more that the cuisine includes. However, thanks to the brilliant Ding Dong Dim Sum that no longer has to be the case!

Producing ready to cook prepared dim sum dishes and special selection boxes, the company has made eating those delicious little bites of pure goodness a whole lot easier. Kindly, the team allowed for me and my family to sample a number of dishes one Saturday night and to say we were amazed at what we received would be an understatement.

Wanting to put as much to the test to report on as possible, we opted for The Legends Set Box (£44.25 With Biodegradable Steamer), as well as some Custard Buns (£6), Yakitori Chicken Skewers (£8.95), Lamb Dumpling Noodle Bowl With Chili, Soy & Cumin Bowl (£15.95), Sticky Soy Glazed Chicken Wings (£8.50), Seafood Dumplings (£6.50) and Prawn & Sweetcorn Siu Mai (£7.75). To say we had been given a feast to sample would have been an understatement.

Arriving early on a Saturday morning, we were delighted when we opened the door to find the big pink box on our doorstep. Filled with dry ice and wool insulated packaging, the box comes prepared to keep all the frozen foods within it as cool for as long as possible, enabling you to store the foods in the freezer you might not want there and then. Something we actually did with a few pieces from our selection.

Within the box, we also found additional items including chopsticks, sticky rice and the steamer, which had a number of dipping sauces and spices hidden within it to serve with the cooked dishes. Ding Dong Dim Sum had already proven to us at this point, without us even having cooked anything that they thought of every single thing possible to make a really enjoyable dining experience.

Selecting a few pieces to start our taste testing with, we chose The Legends Box, as well as the Yakitori Chicken Skewers to have first. Made to serve two, the box had two trays full of items for us to pick from, all of which only required to be cooked within the steamer.

Popping a saucepan full of water onto the hob, as instructed via the easy to follow guidance within the packaging, we put together the steamer and placed the items into each one, spacing them out evenly to ensure they all fit. With some dishes needing to be steamed for a bit longer than others, we placed those that required this at the bottom of the steamer, leaving the top clear and ready for when the rest needed to be added.

Once the items were being cooked, we didn’t have to do anything. There was no need to stir or sit and watch the items, we could simply get on with our day for the next 15 minutes, as the steam worked its magic. However, we didn’t get much done, as the smell coming from the steamer, and the oven, where the chicken was cooking, was incredibly distracting. From around five minutes in, we couldn’t get enough of how rich and tasty it all smelt.

When the time for steaming all of the items was nearly up, we popped the sticky rice into the microwave and cooked it for two minutes, completing the meal in no time at all. As the machine beeped, we turned everything off and popped each piece evenly onto our plates, placing the dipping sauces in between us.

I have to admit that none of my family can use chopsticks, so we did leave them in the drawer, using our hands and forks instead to make the most of the dishes. Picking up the Char Siu Bun first, we ripped it open to find a rich pork, coated in a hoisin and oyster sauce within it. As soon as the first taste of it hit our tongue, we were in awe of how wonderful everything was when it came together.

The bun was soft and fluffy, with just the right amount of chewability, whilst the pork simply fell apart in our mouths. With a great first experience, we then moved onto the Spicy Chicken Bun, which gave us the exact same feeling and tastes, but with a deeper richness from the soft chicken.

Having been left in awe of what we had just eaten, we decided to move onto the gyozas next. Starting with the Prawn Japanese versions. Crispy, soft and with a generous amount of filling inside, the prawns were massive, which impressed my mum incredibly. As did the refreshing notes of the cabbage and carrot that were shredded up inside the gyozas too. When mixed with the sauces inside, the whole parcel was pure perfection.

Tasting how wonderful the fish version of the gyozas was, we then moved onto the chicken and vegetable kind. Again, the gyozas were soft and filled to the brim with ingredients. All of which merged together to make another taste explosion in the mouth. You could not believe the moans that were going around our dining room table upon the first hit. It was sinful!

Overjoyed by what we had eaten so far, we were now eager to get stuck into the dumplings. Seeing that some of them were filled with soup-like ingredients, we both agreed that they would be great served alongside the rice to allow for it to seep into the grain. Piercing the Xiao Long Bao Pork Soup Dumplings on our plate over the fluffy rice, we were amazed at just how much soup came out of them.

The dumplings had really been filled to the maximum, meaning we had so much to sample and gratefully so. The soup stuck to the rice perfectly and the whole combination made every bite a joy to behold. Something that we experienced again with both the Red Chicken and Chinese Leaf and the Chicken, Leek and Sweetcorn dumplings too.

Finishing up the meal, we didn’t have room for anything else, yet, we couldn’t help but be tempted by the chicken skewers. Soft, tender and marinated perfectly, the chicken melted in the mouth with every single bite, leading a flavour explosion behind with every mouthful. Popping one off of its skewer to go with the remaining bits of rice we had, they also made for a great curry type meal, which we both loved.

Having not tried as much dim sum before as we did with this meal, all of us around the table agreed that it was a cuisine that we would happily be turning to again and again. Ding Dong Dim Sum being our first choice every time to serve it up. The company has crafted dishes that are a real joy to cook, eat and share with others. Knowing that we have more items to try in our freezer makes us so happy, as we will definitely be enjoying them when the colder months heat to warm our souls.

Ding Dong Dim Sum is a company that thinks about their customers every step of the way. From delivery options to the actual food, they strive to make the best dim sum dishes and they have achieved it. I love that they want people to be able to stock up on their meals to find comfort in them when they crave it. Unlike a takeaway, which once it goes cold isn’t as good as it once was (pizza does have to be excused from this!).

We were so impressed with Ding Dong Dim Sum that we have been raving about them to everyone we know in fact. I honestly couldn’t recommend them enough to you lovelies. Once you try their dishes you will not be able to look back! The doorbell will definitely be ding donging a lot with pink packages before you know it and rightly so! Forget going out for a meal or ordering a dud takeaway, as these are the ones to pick every single time!
