Tiger Milk In London: Read Our Full Review Here!
00:05:00If you love South American food, there is only one place in London to go to fully enjoy it at its best! After kindly being invited to try out the menu at Tiger Milk, based in the heart of the city, we were left in awe at what we were served! Find out what we thought about our experience at the restaurant here!
Good Morning Lovelies,
When it comes to Mexican food, my family is a big fan! Growing up, I was raised having my mum’s incredible version of chilli con carne, which would be coated in thick gooey cheese and placed on beautifully fluffy white rice or within soft tortilla wraps. It was always a good dinner when she made it and still to this day when she recreates it it goes down a treat!
Yet, it isn’t the only taste of South America that we have loved over the years. There have been many restaurants that we have tried, which we have raved over too. Though none of them have been like Tiger Milk.
Placed within the heart of London, the Charing Cross Road restaurant is a venue that knows how to leave every diner wanting more. Having kindly been given the opportunity to come along for the night to review their menu, we jumped at the chance and didn’t stop jumping with happiness until we left the venue.
Upon arriving, we were greeted by the friendliest of staff, who guided us to our table quickly, which was in a corner by the window, which was perfect for us. Overlooking the London views and passerbys, we were swiftly given the menu to help make our choices on drinks and our starters.
Both of us opted for the Yuzu Limonada, which was made up of yuzu purée, peach syrup, lime juice and soda water. Taking our first sip, we both declared that it was very sweet, as the citrus and peach blended together to give a big burst of flavour. Although we both declared that we probably wouldn’t have it again, we did state that it was different and just what you need when trying something new.
Having been energised by the limonada, we were pumped up and ready to choose our starters. With the option of light bites and starters to pick from, we chose to go with the Tacos De Cochinita Pibil, which included spiced pulled pork that had been cooked overnight to tenderly fall into the soft corn tortillas that were served with it, alongside salsa verde and red onion pickles. As well as the lighter choice of Totopos, which came from the bites section of the menu and included handmade crispy tortilla chips served alongside in house tangy salsa verde.
In no time at all, the starters arrived piping hot and ready to be devoured. Tucking into the crispy tortilla chips first, they were just the right amount of salty goodness that was needed to kickstart the experience. The sauce was spicy but not too overpowering that it was uncomfortable to eat. When mixed together, it was a true delight. However, it didn’t compare to the wonders of the Taco De Cochinita Pibil.
At first, we had been a little worried about how big the tacos were going to be, as the menu said times two. However, we really didn’t need to worry, as they were the perfect size for a starter. The meat and tortillas were everything that you could want from a taco experience. Smelling it as soon as it landed on our table, the spices and meat had blended together to provide a taste explosion that occurred bite after bite. The red onion gave it just the right hit of sweetness that the meal needed to lighten the spice within the salsa verde, making each mouthful a real joy. One that we could have had a whole lot more of.
Yet, we saved ourselves for the main event. Looking over the menu again, we decided to opt for two very different dishes that featured the best versions of the meat they made. Together, we ordered the Pollo Asado, a dish made up of British chicken, which had been marinated in the special Tiger Milk house spice blend. All before being grilled on a high heat to become soft, tender and just the right side of smoky that we were told worked perfectly with the ají verde sauce and salad placed on the side. We also opted for the Carnitas Quesadilla.
Completely different to the chicken dish, the Carnitas Quesadilla, was a large sliced quesadilla, filled to the brim with gooey cheeses, British pulled pork, smoky chipotle that was served alongside a pot of jalapeño cream and salad on the side. When both arrived on our table, we awed in amazement at what we had been presented.
Alongside an additional House Salad, the quesadilla and pollo asado both came presented to us like a gift from God. And they tasted just like it too! Grabbing a bite of the chicken dish first, it fell apart as soon as our forks touched it to present a tender meat that melted in the mouth, bite after bite. When dipped into the sauce, the little hits of heat and parmesan brought out the smoky spices that the chicken had been marinated in beautifully. The dish would work in any manner, whether it be in a simple salad or even a roast dinner, it was just so versatile that you couldn’t help but be in awe of it.
A similar feeling was felt when it came to the quesadilla dish. Every inch of the soft corn tortillas was covered in the perfect mixture of pulled pork, cheese and sauces that we didn’t want the dish to end. Every bite brought a cheese pull of epic proportions to come out and the added addition of the spice from the cream brought out the richness of the three cheeses that were placed inside the tortilla. When we came to the end of it, we actually felt a real sense of sadness in our chests.
Having been amazed by the dishes we had been served so far, we couldn’t wait to see what desserts the restaurant had to offer. Known for their incredible brunches, as well as their main dishes, we knew that Tiger Milk was a big hit for their sweet dishes. Once we saw the menu featuring a few of them, we instantly knew why.
Taking the longest out of all three courses for us to pick from, we finally decided on a mixture of two different types of puddings. One being the Brioche Perdue, which was the restaurant's own take on French toast, as it was made up of buttery rich brioche bread, which was topped with whipped cream, warm oozing caramel sauce and candied hazelnuts. Whilst the other was the beautifully rich Mousschacho, a silky chocolate mousse topped with crunchy hazelnuts that had been caramelised and a sprinkling of salt.
The wait for this course to arrive was agony for us both, as we could hardly handle the anticipation we had for the puddings. Spotting them coming to us from across the room, we both sat up to get a glimpse of them. Placing each dish onto the table, we both sat back in delight at what our eyes were taking in. The rich smells coming off the warm brioche was like heaven on a plate, whilst the rich authentic chocolate notes hit us both perfectly too. Grabbing our spoons eagerly, we tucked into each one in no time at all.
Unlike any French toast we had tried before, the thick but airy brioche was top tier in every way. If you could crown a dessert then this would be the king of them all. Each bite just got better and better, making us eager to enjoy more and more of it. The gorgeous caramel sauce blended in well with the golden crusts, whilst the hazelnuts added that little hint of savoury and sweet that the dish needed to work so well.
As for the mousse, it was a chocolate lover's dream. Made in house with only the finest chocolate possible, you could taste the dark richness of the mousse right away, as it blended with the salt and sweet hazelnuts to give a burst of flavour that hung onto our tastebuds for hours. Any fans of salted caramel will love the way that the two toppings on the mousse make it taste exactly like that but not in a way that is too overpowering.
Upon taking our last bites, we were left feeling sad that the whole experience was over. Tiger Milk is a place that can be proud of the authentic and wonderful South American dishes that it is serving. Whilst we were enjoying our dishes, we saw incredible amounts of people coming and going trying to get served in the packed establishment and we could see why.
Unlike any restaurant that we have had this kind of cuisine in before, it was honestly the best that we had ever had and we both agreed that we would be back to join those crowds soon enough to come back in. Plus, at just £80.02, it is an affordable place to dine at, within the city, too.
Overall, we couldn’t recommend Tiger Milk enough lovelies, as it provides a taste explosion of every single kind within the mouth that you will never forget! It is a place that serves meals that become core memories and honestly you couldn’t want for anything more than that!
