Saks In Hertford: My Dye & Cut Experience

00:00:00

Getting your hair cut and styled in a salon can be a luxury for many of us! Therefore, I decided to see if it is really worth spending out for and I can safely say it is! Saks in Hertford welcomed me amazingly after I seeked their help and now I will never go anywhere else again! Find out about my experience here!

Good Morning Lovelies,

At the end of November, I decided to do something quite big for me. Having been quite proud to have kept my natural hair for so long, I reached a point where I wanted a little change. Nothing too over the top but something that would give me a boost. So, I booked myself into a model session at my local Saks salon in Hertford for a full head tint, wash and cut.

When I scheduled the appointment, I booked the earliest time possible. I knew that if I spent the day thinking about the session, I would probably get over anxious and stimulated, leading to me backing out. Arriving at 9am in the morning, I was greeted by the salon’s owner Mannie, who was so incredibly kind. Through him, I learnt that I would be having my hair styled by the salon’s apprentice Lillie, who I had actually met when I booked the appointment.

Filling out a few forms, I was soon welcomed by Lillie, who took my coat, offered me a drink and then took me over to the chair. Knowing that I was looking to go a little darker, she grabbed the colour book and helped distinguish what my colour was and what shade would be best for me.

Originally, I wanted to go a lot darker, but using her expert knowledge helped me to see that it probably wouldn’t work and my eyebrows may look a little odd, which was something I hadn’t even thought about. Therefore, we settled on the brunette shade of 6 that was darker but still warm.

Getting started right away, she covered me in all the right protection, before mixing up the dye and applying it. Starting with my roots before moving onto my lengths, she made sure to get every single hair on my head in no time at all. Cleaning up the materials after she had finished putting it on my hair, she offered me a drink again before leaving the colour to take a hold for 35 minutes. Time spent reading magazines and relaxing.

As the timer went off to signal the end of the colour time, Lillie returned to remove the dye at the washing area. Using the best hair care brands, she shampooed, conditioned, oiled and massaged my hair and head. Honestly, if she could have stayed there and done that all day, I would have been in real heaven, as I love people playing with my hair.

Wrapping my head in a warm towel at the end of the washing treatment, we returned to the salon chair, where we decided to go for a good four inches off the ends of my hair. Sectioning it off, she transformed my straggly ends into thick luxurious locks that I haven’t had in years. Upon feeling the shorter hairs, I could have cried.

When I was younger, I had the thickest, Italian, curls that I had gotten off my dad. Upon my ED taking hold and through endless medicines, this had dramatically thinned. Yet, I have been spending a lot of time trying to get that thick feeling back. Something that this cut showed me that I had achieved. It was a full circle moment in many ways.

Having never been to a hair salon, dyed my hair or had it styled in that way before, I was absolutely in awe with the team at Saks in Hertford. They went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and to make sure that everything was done to my liking. Being a model for an apprentice or student is in no way scary, so if you can help someone you definitely should! I’ve already booked in for another session in a few weeks time!
