Day Four Of Our Dublin Trip: Fights, Floods & The Rattling Bog

00:00:00

Wednesday the 16th July marked our last full day in Dublin, so there was no way that I wasn’t going to spend it doing as much as I possibly could! From sight seeing to actual fights, we saw it all! And when I tell you about it, you will see why we will never forget it! Read all about the fourth day here!

Good Morning Lovelies,

Waking up on our last full day in Dublin brought with it a sense of sadness for me. I love the city so much and having had the 30th birthday trip of a lifetime, I didn’t want to go home. With all this in mind, I had decided, with my mum, the night before that we were going to get up bright and early to enjoy the last of the sights, sounds and people.

However, our apartment had other ideas. Having got up super early to make the most of our final hours, we both had showers. My mum’s went absolutely fine. Mine did not. I literally was in it five minutes when my mum come running into the bathroom to tell me to turn the water off as it had started to flood the room.

Grabbing the cleaners to help, we used endless amounts of towels to mop it all up, as we worked together to dry the room before the maintenance man came in. Taking a look down the pipes, he found that a previous guest had left a hair clip down it, which had clogged it causing the flood. The hotel team were so apologetic and continuously cleaned and fixed our room before offering to move us. We decided not to move, as the issue was sorted quickly and we only had one more night to spend, so it didn’t seem right to us.

With everything in our room sorted, we took off at around 10:30am to head to the Teeling Whiskey Distillery. The first distillery to open in recent years, all the whiskey the brand makes is made on site, so I was eager to smell and see what it was like for the first time ever.

Upon entering the building, we were greeted by some really friendly staff, before meeting our host, who took us around the venue. Starting with a quick video about the history of the whiskey, we then moved onto rooms displaying the types of whiskey and alcohol they produce, the connections the building and barrels have to the family and a sampling area.

I loved the room in which you could see the actual yeast being brewed. It smelt amazing to me and I nearly asked for a job because of it. Yet, I left with only another t-shirt, which I’ve not stopped wearing since.

Leaving the distillery, we were faced with the beautiful sunshine, which led to us walking back into the main city centre to find a bus to take us across the river. After a bit of a mishap, which saw us heading out of town instead of into it, we managed to find our stop, right outside Trinity College

It was always a dream of mine to go there, yet I was told by teachers that I wasn’t smart enough too. Walking around the building and grounds, it sort of felt like a moment where I proved them wrong. Like I had finally made it, even if I wasn’t studying there and I didn’t find my Connell.

After a quick walk around, we headed to O’Connell Street, where we hoped to shop until we dropped in Penneys. Upon arriving on the road though, we found ourselves faced with a protest, however, it was a fight that broke out right next to us, which the police stopped so fast that we couldn’t get over. The noise still rings in our eyes from the impacts of the punches. Yet, seeing the response from the police left us feeling incredibly safe in a weird way.

Unfortunately, we didn’t pick anything up in Pennies, but we grabbed a few souvenirs in the local gift shops to bring back with us. The bags in which we held them in swinging as we decided to go to the National Wax Museum. If you know me then you know I can’t resist a bad wax work and this place houses many. However, don’t let that put you off going into it, as they also have a fantastic historical section too.

Pottering around a few more shops, we took a stroll back over the bridge to take ourselves for a peak inside The Temple Bar again. Watching my favourite band of the whole trip, I soon became a loyal fan of The Rattling Bog, which I can now proudly sing all of the words too.

With our legs getting tired and the mood getting a bit low with the knowledge that we would be leaving the day after, we started to head back to our apartment. Walking along the paths, we did one more spot of sightseeing, as we delved into the grounds of Dublin Castle, which will always be stunning to me. Honestly if I get married, I want it to be there. That’s not too much to ask is it?

It was a real day of firsts for us on the Wednesday, as we did a lot of things that we never did on our previous trips. I really wished on this day that we had booked a longer stay! Yet, with a morning still to enjoy, I tried to remain positive! Check back tomorrow to see what we did on our final morning and afternoon in Dublin’s fair city!
