Military Wives Review

Hey Lovelies,

Many of us are feeling the loss of cinemas right now. The need to sit in a comfy lush seat and enjoy the world on screen is becoming something we all want. Yet, there is also the new comfort that we are finding in enjoying cinematic features at home. Including the earliest one to be released, Military Wives, which is out on DVD, Blu-Ray and digitally from today.

Inspired by the true story of a military wives choir, who took to our small screens in a BBC documentary, before heading to the Royal Albert Hall, this is a British classic in the making. From director Peter Cattaneo, the man behind The Full Monty, the feature follows the incredible group of women, highlighting their origin story and the personal journey each of them has gone through to get involved. To find their voices some might say.

Although the feature is not as long as many would expect, it has a heart of gold. With Kristen Scott Thomas and Sharon Horgan leading the charge, the film manages to make you think and see life in a different way. As we all struggle with difficult circumstances, the story highlights the power of using your voice to make a change. It is an uplifting musical that will bring a smile and a tear to your face.

People will see a lot of comparisons to other British hits, such as The Full Monty and Calendar Girls. Proving to many of us just how important and classic this feature will be. It is sad that it did not get the chance to really shine on screen, as it would have made an even bigger impact. A crowd-pleasing impact at that.

You do not need to know everything about the women on screen. Just the small moments and pieces that you are given are enough to make it watchable throughout. You are left routing for them, and you want to see them use their voices to sing their stories loudly. All before going off and using your own to tell others to watch this film.

Whilst it is sad that the feature did not get a big release, the small one it has will still make it a hit. It is a cosy film to watch on a Sunday evening. One that will leave you feeling motivated for the rest of the week.

4 Stars
