Paterson DVD Review

Good Morning Lovelies,

If you watched Girls or have seen the latest Star Wars adventure, then you will probably be like me and have fallen in love with Adam Driver! Portraying characters that are completely different every single time, his latest role in Paterson will make your heart fall for him even more.

Directed by Jim Jarmusch, the film tells the story of a bus driver in New Jersey. Whilst he spends his day driving around the city, Paterson writes poetry and his daily observation into a notebook. All reflecting his routine based life with his wife Laura, played by Golshifteh Farahani, who is living a less than planned life with brand new ideas and projects coming her way daily.

Based over a week, starting on Monday, the film takes the tiny aspects of life to make it comical, emotional and enjoyable. When Jarmusch makes a new film, it is sure that he will never do something that is viewed to be too over the top or unbelievable, which makes his films more relatable and realistic.

Driver and him have worked to show every aspect of the character’s life and they never try to prevent audiences from seeing the humanity of a shot. Mix in the poetry and the film flows along, as much as the rhymes that are easy to remember do in the film.

The secondary characters also make a real impact in making sure the film flows as well as it does. Farahani’s portrayal of the wife who is more carefree, but also at times demanding, is a strong role and the emotion created by the dogs - even though they are not acting – shares with the audience something that many can connect with.

However, it all really comes down to Driver. Whilst many of us have seen him act before in roles that should have won several awards, the way in which he takes this character is a sweet and innocent take that will make you fall under his acting charms. Paterson is a mix of a sweet but heart-breaking character and Driver nails it both times.

Overall the film is a real look at one’s man’s life and the changes that can happen to someone within a week of their life. There is a realness in this film unlike others that have tried to share the same thing and that is why I am giving it…
