Bleed For This DVD Review

Good Morning Lovelies,

Bleed For This was a film I had marked down and was desperate to see at the BFI 2016 Film Festival. Chosen by Empire Magazine, the film was a hot spot for many and so sadly I missed out on seeing it first time round.

Now on its second outing in the ring, the film is just as good. Starring Miles Teller and produced by Martin Scorsese, the film tells the story of boxing legend Vinny Pazienza.

After being involved in a car accident, doctors were unsure Vinny would ever walk again, let alone get back in the ring. However, after defeating the odds and their words of advice, Vinny returns to the boxing world with a new determination.

With Scorsese involved, the film had a man attached who knew how to make a boxing film. Add in Teller's charisma and the film hooks you in and holds you down right up until the end.

Vinny's story isn't one that is familiar with everyone, but the sharp script and the clever shoots have presented it on screen in such a way that it is now hard to forget. Score pieces complement the scenes well and the atmosphere is portrayed well by one of Teller's strongest acting performances yet.

Those who are familiar with the story will be able to see just how well it matches up to the truth. Very hands on with the film, the real Vinny knew when to knock them down when something wasn't right and there so every detail has been thought of with care. Every actor knows there character inside and out it seems and it makes for incredible viewing.

Whilst it doesn't match up to the greats we all know, it is a modern boxing story. It follows on from Creed in reviving the boxing genre and it presents a story of determination and inspiration, mixed with a hint of worry, to a new generation.

There so I am going to give this a heavy weight of...

4 Stars
