AMERICAN SNIPER REVIEW...

07:55:00

Hey Lovelies,

Over the weekend I was sent the film ‘American Sniper’ which I never saw when it was in cinemas, as it did not really call out to me to watch it, when I really should have gone to the cinema and watched it as it was a huge talking point in the cinema world during awards season. So I decided to sit down and watch the film that got so many talking.

From the moment the film begins you know that you are going to see a lot of action scenes that are going to cause you to tense up as a viewer. The plot follows the real life story of Chris Kyle, whose story is told from a young age, right up until the final stages of his career in the army. During the film, the film touches on a lot of personal elements including the struggle in which Kyle finds himself having when he is at home and away from the army.

These scenes allow the plot to add a lot of elements that some audience’s members may struggle to come to watch, as the emotions are very well played and real that you feel for the whole family during them. However the scenes within the film that feature Kyle’s time at war are the hardest to watch.

Nothing is held back and director Clint Eastwood, makes the moments so tense that you find yourself wanting to turn away and not watch at times, as you do not know how they are going to turn out and the tense atmosphere becomes so much. Each experience that Kyle goes through is witnessed and the first time he is sent away, is the hardest moments to watch in the film. It is some of the most tense watching of all time, that is also unbelievably sad as well.

And the way in which the actors and actresses within the film capture it is the reason in which they have been praised so much. Bradley Cooper gives one of the best performances of his career within this film and the way in which he handles the character’s story is done in such a way that you can see him being affected by the story. His emotions are the ones that lead the film and Cooper knows what to bring to the big screen to make it watchable.

As well as his performance, the performances from Sienna Miller and co-stars such as Luke Grimes and other figures, allow the film to really progress on and show the truth within Kyle’s story. Miller’s portrayal as his wife is one that will make your heart hurt, as you see the way in which she has truly captured the family figure and her relationship with Kyle in such a way that you want to give her a hug.

However as a viewer I do have to point out the downside of the film, which is some of the moments within the home scenes, that did not have to be shown, and actually made it a lot harder to watch at times because of this, as you feel that you may not be getting the truth within them, as it felt like you may not have been getting the right emotions and the only people who really knew that Kyle and his wife felt like this were the pair of them.

The true star of the film and the overall key quality of it though, is Clint Eastwood’s directing, as he has used the skills in which he has gained throughout the years to provide an action packed film, which will have audiences hooked from the moment it begins, as he shows every side to a man at war and his return home. He has created a film to show the audience the truth behind a figure that many people were aware of and the terrible acts that soldiers face when they are away at home.

Therefore I am giving the film…

4 Stars
