Find out all about them and an exciting competition here!
Good Morning Lovelies,
What is the first thing you do in the morning? For me, it is always cleaning my teeth. Helping me to feel completely refreshed, I love the feeling of having smooth teeth with no nasty breath. It really gives me something to smile about. Now more so than ever, as it is officially National Smile Month in June.
To mark the occasion, the wonderful team at Dentek reached out to me to see if I would share some of their new data, which is helping to beat the myths around our dental hygiene. There was so much within what they told me that I found incredibly interesting that I couldn’t wait to tell you all about it lovelies. For example, whilst many think the US has the best teeth, it is actually Denmark that continuously ranks the best for dental care. How interesting is that?
Here are a few other facts and figures that I found really informative lovelies, which I hope that you can find useful too…
Mouthwash Should Never Replace Brushing: Some people believe that you only have to swirl some mouthwash to get a fresh clean. Yet, that is not the case. Mouthwash doesn’t remove any of the plaque that builds up on our teeth. Instead, mouthwash helps to prevent the bacteria in the mouth that plaque can cause. Therefore, it is important to continue to brush at least twice a day.
Brushing Harder Doesn’t Ensure A Better Clean: Many dentists see teeth being damaged due to brushing too hard nowadays. Unknown to us, teeth have many layers including dentine and enamel, which brushing too hard can wear down and expose, leading to sensitivity and cavities. An electric toothbrush can stop hard brushing from occurring lovelies, as it only allows for a certain amount of pressing to be applied.
Sugar Isn’t The Only Root Of All Evil: Often considered the worst thing for our teeth, sugar isn’t the only thing that can cause cavities. In fact, it is often the bacteria in our mouth, found in plaque, that causes them, as the acid within it breaks down the layers on the teeth. This is why it is so important to have a good dental routine.
Don’t Brush Away After Eating: Whilst many of us will think that we should clean our teeth after breakfast or meals, it actually isn’t a very good idea. Upon eating, the pH levels in our mouths change, making for a more acidic area, causing the enamel to soften. It is actually better to wait 30 minutes after eating to allow for the acid levels to drop and the pH levels to rebalance themselves.
That Diet Coke Break Isn’t So Good For Your Teeth: Although they may have less or no sugar within them, diet drinks tend to have a lot of acid remaining, leading to weakening of the tooth enamel. All of which cause erosion and decay. It is best to reduce the amount of breaks you have to protect your teeth, although everything can be enjoyed in moderation.
You Should See Your Dentist Often: I am not saying that a friendship needs to be formed, however, many people think that they should only see their dentist when their teeth hurt. This isn’t the case though, as you should see your dentist at least once every six to 12 months for a regular check up. By doing so, you can stop any problems from arising before they happen, including losing a filling, which you should see a dentist about as soon as possible. However, Dentek have a temporary filling kit, known as the Temparin Max Repair Kit, which can help whilst you wait to be seen.
Mind The Gap Earlier On: Lots of people believe that as we get older we will lose our teeth. But, in actual fact, a lot of older people actually have better teeth than younger patients, due to the lack of sugar and processed items in their diets. Though, older patients are more susceptible to gum disease, leading to receding gums and deterioration of the support around each tooth. This is why they often lose their teeth. By continuously following a good oral routine, this deterioration can be prevented early on, leaving those pearly whites in their rightful place.
Overall, the most important thing that we can all do is clean our teeth the best we can by having a good oral routine. With 31% of adults in the UK experiencing tooth decay and plaque buildup, the use of brushing, flossing, interdental cleaning and mouthwashing, is all vital in helping to build a stronger smile. Dentek has many products on offer to help build a routine that makes your teeth shine and many of them can be found online or in shops now.
To help you experience them firsthand, I have an exciting competition running from Monday 8th to the 11th June 2026 on the blog’s X page, which you can enter to be in with a chance of winning a six month supply of Dentek items! Make sure to take part as soon as you can lovelies, as it is really something worth smiling about!
