Find our full review here!

Good Morning Lovelies,

Thai food is not something that my family has very often. Not because we dislike it or can’t be bothered to make it. We just fear that we won’t be very good at capturing the wonderful flavours, textures and wonders that Thai restaurants and cooks are able to create. So, when we get to enjoy it, it is a real treat!

Kindly, a few weeks ago, the blog was invited to trial the wonderful menus at our local Thai Square restaurant in St Albans, which we accepted quickly. After booking in a slot for Saturday 7th March 2026, we were super excited when the date finally came around. Arriving to find a full car park, we were greeted at the door by two giant elephants, which my mum wanted to steal. Thankfully, we managed to talk her down from doing so.

Heading into the restaurant, we were quickly welcomed by many members of staff, who were lovely throughout our meal. They truly couldn’t have been more helpful and really made sure to make a real fuss over us. Something we couldn’t be more thankful to them for, as it was their knowledge that guided us through our tasting session.

After ordering two soft drinks to enjoy throughout the meal, they also brought us some water, before guiding us through the set menu that they had chosen for us to eat that night. Picking out a Mixed Starter For Two to begin with, they brought us a platter made up of vegetable spring rolls, chicken satay sticks, Thai dumplings, butterfly prawns and corn cakes.

Sharing them out between us, we were quick to dip them in the accompanying soy and sweet chilli sauces before taking a bite. Starting with the spring rolls, we both loved how fresh and crisp the vegetables within them were, which was reflected again in the Thai dumplings. Soft, with a slight bite to them, they soaked up the sweet chilli sauce to make a splendid taste explosion in the mouth.

As for the chicken satay sticks, they were some of the best that we had ever tasted. The chicken was juicy, falling off the stick right into our mouths. If a roast dinner chicken turned out like this it would have been the best roast dinner of our lives. This sensation was maintained throughout our tasting of the butterfly prawns too. Coated in a light batter, they were so fresh and worked with the sauces perfectly that it tasted like they had just been caught. Whilst the corn cakes were so crisp and just the right amount of sweet that they provided a great balance of flavour to the other savoury dishes.

Having been amazed by the starter, we were eager to see what the team chose for us to enjoy as our main dishes. Providing us with two sides, made up of their famous Steamed Thai Jasmine Rice and their Mixed Vegetables (Oriental cabbage, shimeji mushroom, carrots, broccoli, babycorn, and sugar snap peas), which came with Garlic and Soya sauces on top of them, the team paired these with their recommended Tamarind Duck and Sweet & Sour prawns

Due to the way that they were presented to us, we decided to share the dishes amongst us, taking a little bit of each main between us. Fluffy and with a slight bite, the rice was some of the best that we had ever tasted, whilst the vegetables were out of this world. Each piece had been cooked in such a way that they each had reached the right consistency, which was amazing considering they were mostly all cooked together. It was a work of art in our eyes.

When it came to the two big main dishes, we both awed in amazement when we saw the duck. Known for being one of their signature meals, the roasted duck leg came topped in a tamarind sauce that had three different flavours to it, which were only enhanced by the addition of dried chilli flakes and grilled pineapple. Combining a mixture of both sweet and salty, Thai Square should definitely make the meal a higher up piece on their menu, as they deserve an award for how wonderful it was.

The meat fell off the bone representing a tender and succulent meat that was unlike anything we had ever tried before. It captured the wonders of Thai cooking being at its best and everyone involved in cooking it that way should be praised. As for the prawns, they again were equally as fresh and crisp as the ones in the starter. The accompanying vegetables added the crunch that the battered fish needed leading to a textured taste that our tongues are still not over.

Having been so amazed by what we tried, we didn’t want the flavours to leave our tongues. Deciding to take a little break between the main and dessert, we took in the restaurant and all its authentic and real Thai celebrations that were represented from the moment that we arrived. Both of us agreed that we were in awe of such a scene, as it made us feel like we had travelled around the world to enjoy real authentic Thai food. Something Thai Square can definitely tell everyone that they have and make.

When we were finally ready for our puddings, the staff presented us with a large scoop of their Coconut Ice Cream. Sprinkled with real coconut pieces, the dessert tasted like a real, fresh coconut, with the added sweetness of the centre of a Bounty. It was a real palate cleanser and we all agreed that if they were to sell it we would buy it!

After finishing our puddings and drinks, we spoke to the staff to state how thankful we were for the meal, before heading out into the cold, without an elephant following us, to go home. All of us agreed that we would definitely be going back to enjoy the flavours again, as they had left a real mark on us.

Thai Square should be proud of the hard work and dedication that they have presented to the world in terms of making real authentic Thai food that tastes like nothing else we had ever had before! If you are looking for a five star Thai meal, this is the place to go lovelies, as you will not be disappointed!
