Blogmas Day 19: Five Ways Going On A Festive Walk Benefits Us

00:00:00

No matter the weather, time of the year or how I am, I have to go for a walk every day! Whether it be little or large, the walks I embark on help to clear my head, giving me the energy I need to make it through the day! They truly can make all the difference! Find out why they help right here!

Good Morning Lovelies,

Walking is my main form of exercise. Honestly, you should never underestimate the wonders of going on one, as they can really help to ease away the worries. Every day, I pop on my headphones and go for one. Even on Christmas Day!

Popping on my shoes and a big coat, whilst linking arms with my mum, before we head out for a little trip around our village has become a festive tradition that we look forward to. When we see fellow people out and about, we always wish each other a very merry Christmas and if our local pub invites us in, we go and send well-wishes to those inside too. It makes my heart oh so happy.

There are also many other reasons why I adore going for a festive walk so much, which I thought I would share with you lovelies in case you were undecided about going on one this Christmas. You will be walking in a winter wonderland before you know it…

Helps You To Reconnect With Loved Ones: If you haven’t seen a loved one in a while, a nice walk can help to break the tension, as there is not the pressure of being cooped up inside. Talking about what you see along the way can make for a great conversation starter, which often leads to festive memories arising.

Take In The Festive Lights: When you go out on a walk, whether it be in your local area or somewhere else, seeing all the festive lights and Christmas trees brings a real sense of joy. I know it might seem nosy but I love to see people enjoying their Christmas Day’s through the windows in their homes. Even if it is just seeing what Christmas TV they have on!

Prepares You For The Big Meal: Any type of exercise will build an appetite and a little walk will do wonders at that. A real secret highlight of a walk is not only this though but the smells that are in the air from everyone's dinners is mouthwatering too. Plus, if you decide to go for a walk after your dinner, it can help to move that little bit of indigestion that we all get around a bit. Farting after all those Brussel sprouts is always okay at Christmas.

Keeps A Sense Of Normality: If you are like me and you like to go on daily walks then taking one on Christmas Day can help you to keep a routine going. As someone who has autism, I like to know what I am doing each day and a walk is almost always included. Keeping this up on Christmas Day makes all the unexpected madness I may experience a bit easier to handle.

Builds A Tradition: Going for a walk for the first time ever on Christmas Day could be the start of a fantastic new tradition for you and your loved ones. We didn’t used to do them but now we always schedule one in. We love seeing the lights, people and sights that a good festive walk brings. It also helps us to maintain a clear head, whilst also getting the blood pumping and not in an argument with the family kind of way.

Walking is always a fab thing to do each day but a festive walk is just that little bit more special! They don’t have to be miles long outings, just a simple ten minute route around your local area can work! Especially if you get dragged into a festive sing song along the way, which we have had happen a few times aha!
