Five Ways To Help Manage The Darker Months

00:00:00

The next few months are definitely ones that bring a sense of calm and joy! However, for some of us, the lack of sunshine, routine and warm weather can cause a number of problems. Yet, I have found that by creating and doing a few simple things each day there can be a never ending joy when it comes to truly embracing autumn!

Good Morning Lovelies,

To me, autumn is the greatest time of the year! Yet, I also understand the effects that it can have on our routines and the way that the darker months affect us. My routine often goes wild due to the sun not waking me up.

However, over the years, I have found that my body naturally knows what to do to help me get back into a pattern. I also know that by setting a few goals each day or week, I am able to navigate the darkness better too.

So, I thought I would share a few of those ideas with you too. I hope that these can help you have a better autumn and winter if you are suffering from the effects of the darkness lovelies…

Head Outside & Embrace The Fresh Air: A walk in the fresh air is an essential during this time of year. Even if it is raining! Grab your biggest coat, pop on your walking boots and head out. The refreshing coolness from the wind will bring a brighten start to any day. Or a night time stroll seeing all the festive lights can bring a smile to any face.

Keep A Daily Routine: I will be the first to say that staying in my bed during the colder months is something that I often do each morning. Every five minutes, I keep telling myself that I will get up. Yet, I end up staying there longer than I intend to. I have been working on changing this though, as I know that mentally I need routine in my life. Setting a bed and waking up time is a perfect way to start. Little bits during the day will then start to slot into place lovelies.

Get Creative Wherever You Go: Collecting leaves to turn into a collage. Drawing a picture of the autumn weather around you. Finding a book to escape into another world with are all ways to keep your mind entertained. Recently, I have been spending the cold nights with a warm drink, Bridgerton and a giant colouring book. Getting lost in the pieces completely clears my mind from the happenings of the day.

Take A Digital Detox: When it is cold outside, it is easy to stay in and get lost in our screens, wishing we were somewhere else or doing something different. Yet, it is actually lovely to take an afternoon or day off from all digital forms. Take the time to go exploring and actually take in the sights. Read that book you have been meaning to. Clean out that drawer that you have been meaning to. The possibilities are endless!

Make A Cosy Space At Home: Speaking of spending time at home, it is vital that you have a cosy space to escape to when needed. Especially with the festive season coming up. Buy the softest blanket, a bunch of cushions and the warmest winter brews to make up and snuggle up on your sofa, in your bed or on a giant armchair for the night. Being as snug as a bug will certainly make you feel better.

There are many ways to help bring a sense of happiness and calm into your life during the darker months lovelies. I know it can be hard, believe me when I say that I will be struggling throughout it too, yet, the wonders of this time of year can make it a real joy too! Pop on your favourite comfort show, snuggle up under a fluffy blanket and relax the best you can under the trickling fairy lights lovelies! A perfect way to spend a dark day!
