Snow White (2025) DVD Review
00:00:00Growing up, I used to go to my grandparents house and watch the animated classic Snow White every time I was there! It became a ritual and still to this day, I think fondly of that time! However, I was a little worried about the live-action remake of it for a number of reasons! Find out what I thought about it right here!
Good Morning Lovelies,
Sitting on my grandad’s lap, I recall the joy we would share watching and rewatching the Disney classic, Snow White, every time I went to his house. Years later, I still think fondly of the film, as it is buried in my brain with beautiful memories! However, these memories did lead to a lot of concerns when I heard about the live-action remake, which is out now on home release.
Following the classic story, the modern version sees Gal Gadot and Rachel Zegler taking on the iconic roles of the Evil Stepmother and Snow White, in a feature that has been plagued with bad news and press from the moment it was announced.
Although the cast and the creative team behind the film have worked hard to rid these ideas, the film sadly lacks what it needs to be a success. Full of hope and passion, Snow White is presented with the intent to guide people into a story that shows determination and power. Yet, it falls short of letting the old ideals go.
Creatively it tries to outsmart the old animated techniques, however, it loses some of the beauty of the story by doing so. Plus, the CGI dwarves are an element this is definitely not done well. Instead of taking a step forward, it seems to take a deep dive back into a time when filmmakers weren’t doing what they could to represent society. Something that everyone should be avoiding by now.
A really strong element of the film however is the songs. Beautifully presented with a heightened strength to them, they help to make the story have a sense of purpose. Each one is delivered with passion, modernity and soul. Especially from Zegler. This is where young minds can get inspiration from the story instead of from the script.
With so much loss within the two hour runtime, the feature falls flat at hitting the wonders that the classic captured. While everyone tries hard to bring a sense of purpose to it, they can’t give it its best. And for that reason I am giving it…
2 Stars
