Good Morning Lovelies,
Christmas can be stressful, which is why it is important to take some time for yourself! And you can easily do that with one of the books in my newest display at Hertford Library! Filled with feel good vibes, I hope that they allow you to escape for however long you like.
This month, I have chosen the following for you to read, all of which are on display now or in your local library and bookshops. Enjoy…
BOOK OF THE MONTH: What I Ate In One Year by Stanley Tucci: Have you ever thought about what you eat each day? I know I have! When I really break it down, I find it so interesting. Therefore, when I read Stanley’s new book documenting his daily adventures with food, I was hooked. Even the small snippets are enchanting. Tucci makes you think about food in a different but very good way!
The Snowman by Raymond Briggs: You cannot miss out The Snowman at Christmas! Why not read the classic book as well as the film this year lovelies, as it is just as beautiful.
Advent Street by Carol Ann Duffy: You can read this little book in one sitting but it is a read that will stay with you for life. Seeing how a festive street comes to life, this poem is a true work of art from Duffy.
The Christmas Tree Farm by Laurie Gilmore: If you have read the other books in the Pumpkin series then this festive one is a vital one. Capturing the wonders of the beautiful little town, see how its inhabitants celebrate the festive period whilst enjoying your own.
Christmas Days by Jeanette Winterson: Over the course of 12 short stories, a number of Christmas days play out. From the serene to the family based arguments we all know about, you will find your festive day amongst these stories. This book is also a fun recommendation to others as well to see if they can find their day too.
The Penguin Book of Christmas Stories edited by Jessica Harrison: Whilst we all love the Penguin classic, A Christmas Carol, there are so many festive stories that have really made an impact too. This book brings them altogether to make sure that nothing is left behind in our classics library.
A Merry Little Meet Cute by Julie Murphy and Sierra Simone: These two authors know how to tell a story that is inclusive to all. Taking us behind the scenes of the movie industry, this story captures a romance starting on set and off in a fun way that young adults and older readers can enjoy together.
The Christmas Book Club by Sarah Morgan: Pick this read for your book club and you will all love it. Mixing books, romance and festive feels, Otis a gorgeous feel good story that is perfect for the Yuletide season.
An Unfortunate Christmas Murder by Hannah Hendy: If you are someone who loves a darker story than this is perfect for you. Each page contains more and more clues as to what happened. It becomes a bit like an advent calendar in the form of pages. A darkly sweet reveal in every chapter.
Skipping Christmas by John Grisham: If you have seen the film, Christmas With The Kranks, then you are going to love the book it is based on. Not as dark as Grisham’s other novels, this is definitely a more fun read, as we read about one couples bid to leave their Christmas obsessed town for a lifetime cruise. However, the others around them don’t make it easy for them to do so.
Letters from Father Christmas by J.R.R. Tolkien: Growing up, Tolkien’s children would receive a letter from Santa every Christmas. Now, they have gathered these letters together to make this book, which highlights the magic that Tolkien created when writing to them. Honestly, this is the most heartwarming read you will ever find.
What book or books will you be reading this December lovelies? Which book from this list will you be looking out for?
