Good Morning Lovelies,
There is nothing better than spending an evening, under the warm sun, in London! Everyone seems happier. The pub gardens are full. And the restaurants have their doors wide open, welcoming guests to come in and enjoy the delights of their menu. Something Smith’s Bar and Grill did for us last night!
A few weeks back, I had been kindly invited to come along and try their new beef brisket platter menu. Only served on Monday nights, from 12pm until closing time, the £40 per platter dish, which is made to feed two, includes gorgeous brisket cooked to perfection and served alongside oozing with cheese mac-n-cheese, spiced corn, juicy pickles and perfectly crunchy sweet potato fries. It was safe to say that we were keen to go and experience it.
After a bit of a travel mishap, we were welcomed by the team, who had happily helped us amend our booking over the phone when we knew we were going to be a little late. Seated outside under the Sun, we were quickly asked by our server what we would like to drink, before being handed the menu to pick our starters.
With the weather being so warm, we were seeking a refreshing dish, so we opted for the Crab and Avocado and Tuna Tartare dishes. Waiting only a short amount of time, we were amazed by both when they arrived! The crab and avocado came looking like everything had just been caught or picked off the tree. Beautifully placed within the bright green shells of the avocado, the white crab meat was wonderfully plumb and full of flavour from the gorgeous chilli, romesco and lemon sauces and dressing. The whole dish led to a taste explosion in our mouths and we couldn’t wait to try more, as we shared it.
The same was found with the tuna tartare, which again was a blast of perfection to the palate. The fish just melted into our mouths, with the sauce and herbs adding even more to the food. With the added vegetables adding a lightness to it, the dish was a great starter that wasn’t too heavy to choose before the beef.
After confirming with us how we wanted the brisket to be cooked, we sipped our drinks under the sun, until we saw the platter coming our way. A little smoke. A beautiful sizzle. It was a sensory experience before a taste one. With BBQs being the key to summer, this was the ultimate type.
On a wooden board, the meat was sliced and served along with the spice charred corn like fries, freshly made crunchy sweet potato chips, juicy pickles and the most beautiful oozy mixed cheese mac n’ cheese that honestly tasted like it came from the gods. Additional pots on the platter included a rich bbq sauce and a green salsa type sauce that had a little kick to it.
Grabbing our forks, we didn’t know where to start. We were so overwhelmed by how good it looked that we seemed to forget that the rest of the world existed! Deciding on trying the meat before anything else, we both picked up a slice, dipping it into the bbq sauce. The juices ran down our chins upon taking the first bite. Honestly, we had never tried beef quite like it. It was truly wonderful! Cooked just how we wanted it to be, we were left speechless by it. We couldn’t even talk to each other, we just wanted to eat.
Not forgetting the side dishes, we took a few chips each confirming their crunch, before dipping the wonderfully fresh corn into the bbq sauce. A thing we will now be recreating at every event. The pickles were also perfect. They made us want to try them in a juicy beef burger, as we knew that it could elevate one to new heights.
The platter is well worth the £40! Leaving our stomachs full with beautiful foods, we were left truly unable to talk to each other. We didn’t know how to explain the whole experience. When we could speak it was both to agree that it was amazing! Truly and utterly amazing!
Not sure how we could follow it, we took a while picking out the right desserts to refresh our palates. With so much too choose from, we decided to go with the classics, opting from three scoops of the house ice creams of the day and churros, which came with a chocolate hazelnut sauce and orange zest.
Arriving on our table in a wondrously displayed manner, the scoops were like something you would find at a palace. They were beautifully formed, highlighting that they were going to be good. Something we later confirmed! The churros were crispy but perfectly soft and chewy too. Just what you would want from the classic dessert!
Sitting back at the end of the dinner, we both stated that Smith’s would definitely be a place we would be returning to! Hoping to bring others with us next time, the platter was out of this world. Beautifully flavoured, cooked and served, the restaurant knows how to treat its customers well. Honestly, we both think we dreamed about how good it was last night!
We are both so incredibly thankful to have been given this opportunity and can hand on our hearts state that you should all come along and try it too lovelies! You will not regret it! Make Monday nights your next dine out days at Smith’s as soon as possible! You won’t regret it!
