Over the next few weeks, we will all be delighting in the best Halloween sweets and chocolates that we possibly can! From gummy bears to boiled sweets, they are all brilliant to me! Yet, they can cause a number of issues for our teeth, including our little ones! Thankfully though, the wonders at DenTek are on hand to stop any damage from happening!

Good Morning Lovelies,

When it comes to Halloween, what is your favourite kind of sweet? Is it a syrupy rich toffee? Or is it a chewy gummy that makes you want to go back for more and more? My current obsession has to be Haribo Tangfantastics! I simply can’t get enough of them! To the point that I have chosen to hand these out to the little ones on Halloween night - just so I can enjoy any leftovers!

However, with all of us eating so many sweets, there is a little thing that we should all be mindful of and that is our teeth. With many of us forgetting about the damage that lots of sugar can cause, DenTek have gathered a number of new statistics that are truly shocking when it comes to how much of an impact a few sweets can make. Especially to our little ones' teeth, as some kinds can have up to 17g of the stuff.

Looking into which ones did the most damage, sticky hard-boiled sweets caused the most harm, due to having the highest sugar levels and the way that they stick so much to our teeth, causing the excess acid to wear down the enamel coating. All of which increase the risk of fillings, chips and even lost teeth if a little one has a wobbly one.

However, I don’t want this to put you off eating sweets. In fact, I want this new research to help you enjoy them better knowing that you can eat them and look after your teeth well. To make sure we are ready for the festivities and endless bowls of beautiful treats, DenTek has suggested doing the following to give our teeth the strength they need to get through them all. This includes…

  • Making sure everyone in the family brushes their teeth at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste.

  • Keeping an eye on how much sugary snacks and drinks are consumed, picking reduced sugar or natural sugar options where you can if possible, such as fruit or popcorn.

  • Leaving 30 minutes between cleaning and eating something acidic to stop the enamel on your teeth from eroding.

  • Trying to eat the sweets in one sitting instead of throughout the day to help keep cleaning and care more easily achievable.

  • Introducing interdental cleaning between the teeth from the ages of two and six to help teach children how to look after their complete tooth.

By doing these super easy and achievable goals, you can protect yours and your family’s teeth so much better this Halloween. DenTek has a number of products that you can begin to build a new dental routine with too, including Kids Fun Flossers and different sized interdental brushes, which when incorporated make for a real 100% effective clean! Meaning we can tuck into more Halloween delights without worrying so much about our teeth! And that is always ghoulishly good!
