Steamers and your tummies at the ready!
Good Morning Lovelies,
Back in the summer, our home was very lucky to get the chance to try some of the amazing dishes from the brilliant Ding Dong Dim Sum. Making beautifully flavoursome dishes, the brand provided us with some of the best dim sum dishes that we have ever tried, making the company a firm favourite with us.
Turning to them instead of takeaways, we filled our freezer with the wonderfully light meals that went down a treat during the hot months. However, as the autumn and winter season sets in, we have found that we are seeking diverse meals, which Ding Dong Dim Sum have delivered. Kindly sending me the new range to try, we couldn’t wait to put them to the test.
Combining all the best flavours of the season, they have added a bit of heat to their dishes to help create The Autumn Collection. A limited edition set of dishes that at £35 are worth staying in, instead of going out, as there was plenty to go around and better than most restaurant kinds that we have tried.
Featuring some of the iconic pieces, including their beautifully fluffy Char Siu Bun, which incases rich sweet and salty pork in a pork, hoisin and oyster sauce, within it, as well as Sticky Vegetable Banana Leaf Rice, spicy Fiery Gochujang Glazed Chicken Wings, Beef and Green Pepper Dumplings, Har Kau and Chicken and Truffle Gyozas. We were also lucky to receive the bonus package, which included two Custard Buns, a biodegradable steamer and even more dips to pop the dumplings in.
Much like the pack we received in the summer and are continuing to work our way through, thanks to being able to freeze every single item, we were provided with a number of instructions to help us make each piece correctly. Using the steamer provided, as well as our own metal one, we set the timers and popped each item in for as long as needed.
As the dishes started to steam to life, the smells coming out of our kitchen were amazing. The rich aromas of well-blended spices, sauces and even sweet notes, left us all moaning in pure joy. For me, the most amazing scent came from the Sticky Vegetable Banana Leaf Rice, which was something neither of us had ever experienced the taste of before.
Filled with sticky rice, bamboo shoots, carrots and asparagus, alongside soy and sesame sauces, the little parcels were soft and delicious. To the point that it felt like we were unwrapping a Christmas present when we unfolded them. The light notes of the rice blended in perfectly with the fiery spice from the chicken wings too, which were not for the faint hearted.
Coated in a sticky Korean glaze, the sweet chilli marinade was blended with chilli and garlic to provide the heat kick that we needed to stay warm. Honestly, I debated turning off the heating when I saw the first beads of sweat coming off my mum’s head. However, when the sweeter notes kicked in, the dish just seemed to work wonders on the tongue, becoming her favourite of them all.
However, this was soon followed by the beef and pepper dumplings, which provided us with a meat filling unlike anything we had ever experienced before. The warming dumpling had the best lean beef we had ever tried, which was mixed with the freshest vegetables that had stayed crisp even after freezing. Every bite felt like it had just been made right in front of us, it was that good. A feeling that was reflected in every bite of the chicken and truffle gyozas that we had tried before and loved every bit of. Our freezer is never without them in fact.
Before we cooked up the sweet Custard Buns, we had one final bite to try, which was the new Har Kau dish. Made up of huge whole prawns, spring onions, ginger, shallots and bamboo shoots, the dumplings were some of the best fish based items that our family had ever eaten. My mum declared that she could go away and hibernate throughout winter if she could have an endless supply of these to hide with.
After eating it all up, we were full to the brim. However, there was still room for the Custard Buns, which we adored throughout the summer and again now. Upon taking our first bite, we both declared that the buns are not just great dessert options. They would also make great breakfast buns too. Switching up pastries for these will be a decision that you will never forget!
As the colder months set in, every bite of this collection proved to us this is the collection to have in your freezer to make sure that you can stay indoors and cook up the best dishes possible. Providing spice, heat and meals that are worthy of devouring, Ding Dong Dim Sum, have got our autumn menus locked in and the team behind them should be very proud of what they have created.
If you are looking for an alternative to your normal takeaway or simply wanting to stock up on the best dim sum around, head to their website, as they have a whole host of items to enjoy! Every piece that you choose will be the right one and the warm feeling you will get from them this autumn and beyond will prove it!
