Over the weekend, the blog headed to Croxley Green, which is very close to where we live to experience all the fun of the fair, thanks to Horton’s Steam Fair! Even with the Bank Holiday weather threatening our latest adventure, we were still able to have a wonderful time at a very entertaining event, which is perfect for the whole family to get involved in! Find out all about it here!

Good Morning Lovelies,

A few days ago, I was kindly invited by the team at Horton’s Steam Fair to come along to their bank holiday extravaganza at Croxley Green. Known for their iconic old school rides and stalls, the fair is currently touring the UK to help families relive those classic moments that made our childhoods so special, through their iconic selection of rides and food choices.

With a very excited bunch of boys, we couldn't wait to spend our bank holiday enjoying all that the fair had to offer, including a fireworks display in the evening. Upon arriving at the event, which was blighted a little by the good old fashioned bank holiday rain, we were enchanted to see a helter skelter, dodgems and the enchanting delights of a doughnut stall that presented that iconic smell to us from the moment we got out of the car. All of which taking us back to being little, whilst making memories for the younger ones with us.

After a little confusion at the box office in terms of tokens, we purchased a family pack of tokens, which enabled each of the boys to go on three rides each, as well as a number of stalls. At £30 for our sized token booklet, we found that it was a lot more affordable compared to other venues such as local piers and wristband events. Even if the rain did try to stop the boys from being able to go on the rides.

Yet, we didn't let that stop us from having a go on a few things and enjoying the best of what we could despite it. From the dodgems to the shooting galleries, the boys had a blast and it made the whole trip worthwhile in the end. Even when the rain got heavier, we found it only added to the entertainment, as it made the helter skelter a become like a sort of water slide.

Horton’s Steam Fair knew exactly how to make us all remember that feeling of utter joy, which you would get when the fair would come to town. Or when your family would go on a trip to the seaside and you would be let loose on the pier. It may have only had a few rides to go on but they were all incredibly entertaining.

With the weather turning completely, we were soon faced with the choice as to whether to stay for the fireworks or to head home. We opted for the later, as the boys had only come in shorts, which were not ideal weather wear. However, before we left, we decided we had to try the doughnuts, which had been enticing us all day. Made fresh in front of us, we oohed and ached as we watched the dough spring to life before being coated in silky sweet sugar, biscoff spread and more wonders. Tucking into them was the perfect way to end the day for us all!

With free entry and lots of nostalgic rides that all the family can enjoy, Horton’s Steam Fair is a lot of fun and definitely worthy of a trip to if they are in your local area. The are still open today at Croxley Green, however, if you can't make it there, you can also catch them at:

  • Pinkneys Green, Maidenhead (23rd-25th May)
  • Pedestal Field, West Wycombe (30th-31st May)
  • Boxmoor Common, Hemel Hempstead (12th-14th June & 19th-21st June)
  • Holyport Green, Maidenhead (27th-28th June)
  • Priory Park, Hornsey (4th-5th July)
  • Englefield Green (3rd-4th October)

They will also be at a number of different festivals and events throughout the summer lovelies, including the Richmond May Fair (9th July) and Barnes Fair (11th July), so make sure to look on their website to see where they are each week. We may just have to return for a better visit next time the fair rolls into town! Especially for those doughnuts!
