St Patrick's Day Week: Host A Cosy Night In With These Uplifting Irish Films
00:05:00If you are feeling a little bit tired from all the St Patrick’s Day celebrations happening on the blog, I thought I would tone things down a little bit today and share some of the best Irish films to snuggle up with! Grab a bag of Taytos and a warming cup of Barry’s tea and settle in for a night of film fun!
Good Morning Lovelies,
When I find out that a new Irish based film or TV show is coming out, I instantly know that I am going to watch it. From PS. I Love You to Derry Girls and beyond, I have seen a lot of them, as they fill my Irish loving heart with utter joy!
Therefore, as we head into the fourth day of St Patrick’s Day celebrations, I thought I would keep the party going but in a bit of a more calming manner, with some suggestions for an Irish film night.
With so many features to choose from, I could have gone with lots more, but the following five are just a few that I thought would warm your heart, as they are incredibly wonderful…
Leap Year: You all know that I absolutely adore a good romantic comedy, so to have one that not only features the best country on the planet but also a really fun cast and storyline is pure perfection to me. Starring Amy Adams, I could watch this over and over again, as it makes my heart so happy every time.
The Commitments: If you want a good old fashioned sing song then this is the Irish film to help you with that! Featuring the birth of one of the best musical bands of all time, this is a gritty feature that is full of pure Irish joy.
Sing Street: Probably my favourite Irish film of all time, the songs in this feature will stay with you long after watching. Following a group of teenagers who are hoping to defy their teachers and parents by creating a successful band, the feature is a heartfelt take on the 80s and sibling bonds.
Belfast: Although it is capturing one family’s journey to escape the troubles, the end scene is one of the most uplifting modern cinematic moments in a long time. Seeing Jamie Dornan singing will have you dancing along, keeping the St Patrick’s Day celebrations well and truly going.
Once: I have seen this both on stage and on the screen and every time my heart rips in two at the ending. Sharing one of the most could have been love stories, it shows how the world and those of us in it can connect in many ways. Falling Slowly is also one of the most beautiful songs to come from a film ever.
There are many Irish based films and TV shows that I could have mentioned, however, I wanted to keep this post full of upbeat ones, which I hope these are to you! If you do want some more gritty or darker features than please do let me know, as there are many I could also recommend lovelies! Especially The Fall, which I may just have to start binge watching again!
